Here are what I think are fair and reasonable efforts to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't possess them.

1) Guns should be sold with a title. When you sell the gun, you have to change the title at a police station where a back ground check can be done.

2) Bullets should come with serial numbers, and ammo must be registered when sold.

3) Gun owners should all be required to have a license and have to pass a psychological exam. Like a drivers license, they must be retested every five years.

4) Guns should come with unique rifling patterns that can be documented before the gun is sold.

5) All guns already sold would have to be registered, titled and the owners licensed.

6) All gun related crime regardless if fired come with a minimum 20 year sentence.

7) Some measure to prevent kids from getting hold of their parents guns. For example, charging the parents with manslaughter if their kid shoots someone with their gun.

Would this end all gun crime? No, but I'm sure it would start to make a dent on the tens of thousands of gun related deaths.
Not really funny funny, but stupid funny.

This would certainly help SOLVE a crime, wouldn't do shnit to stop one.

Psychological exam? WTF? I am not afraid of the guys that BUY guns. I am afraid of the ones that STEAL guns.

141 posts....still nothing from the liberals on a law that would have prevented this tragedy.

Safe to say there is no law that could have prevented this?

Some more red herring to chew on:

Quote:
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called for a nationwide assault-weapons ban Monday in response to the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Emanuel made his remarks at a Chicago Police Department graduation ceremony Monday morning.
“It’s time that we as a city have an assault weapons ban. It’s time that we as a state have an assault weapons ban. It’s time that we as a country have an assault weapons ban,” Emanuel said. “And I would hope the leadership in Congress now will have a vote of conscience. It is time to have that vote.”

Oh...and let's not forget what he said about events like this in the past:

Quote:
Emanuel’s current crusade may be part of his larger political philosophy, records reveal.
“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” then-incoming White House Chief of Staff Emanuel said in November 2008, while discussing his political strategy at a Wall Street Journal conference. “And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

So, what do you all feel should be done, if anything about the gun issue specifically regarding crimes of this nature?

Nothing. Because no matter what you do Evil will always find a way and Maniacs will always do harm to those around them.

I think there should be a free program to train people that want to CCW. They don't have to have arrest powers. But, properly trained, and in the right place at the right time, might be able to stop or limit something like this. If anyone tries to harm me or my family. I will fight back to the last breath in my body. I will not be a victim without putting up one hell of a fight.

Video games...I remember when Duke Nukem and others came out. You shoot and all you see are some red pixels. You are disconnected from the reality of death. I play Medal of Honor...I know it is far from reality. I think some of these people don't feel or know the difference from a game and real life. They don't feel compassion, sadness, sorrow, etc...like the rest of us. Their victims are just like the characters in a game in their mind.

I agree with others that it is a mental health problem. People that were around these shooters had to of known something wasn't right with them.

I don't believe there is a "gun issue" regarding crimes of this nature. This was a mental health issue that went unresolved.

But, it servers as a perfect back drop to further the Democratic agenda, unfortunately. Making political hay off the death of children...but they'll get a pass on doing it.

Not specific to my question but yes I agree.

Are you saying cost is a factor in people NOT getting a CCW?

Only if the left can push their agenda.
The fact is Gun control does not work. If you look at the facts you will find that places like NH where the gun laws are very relaxed has a much lower crime rate than Chicago where they are effectively banned.

It's not about ACCESS to guns. its about the culture of the people who get them and use them.

Over 6000 blacks are murdered each year. The vast majority of them by other Blacks. Crime is endemic in their population due to cultural issues. Not race or other factors.

We talk about these 28 unfortunate souls taken by a mad man. Yet NO ONE is addressing the fact that over 6000 blacks are killed each year predominantly due to the Single mother culture supported by the Welfare state.

http://www.cato.org/publications/con...-state-crime-0

Quote:
Last year, the Maryland NAACP released a report concluding that “the ready access to a lifetime of welfare and free social service programs is a major contributory factor to the crime problems we face today.”(1) Their conclusion appears to be confirmed by academic research. For example, research by Dr. June O’Neill’s and Anne Hill for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services showed that a 50 percent increase in the monthly value of combined AFDC and food stamp benefits led to a 117 percent increase in the crime rate among young black men.(2)
As Barbara Dafoe Whitehead noted in her seminal article for The Atlantic Monthly:

Quote:
The relationship [between single-parent families and crime] is so strong that controlling for family configuration erases the relationship between race and crime and between low income and crime. This conclusion shows up time and again in the literature. The nation’s mayors, as well as police officers, social workers, probation officers, and court officials, consistently point to family break up as the most important source of rising rates of crime
.(6)

ok, i've stayed pretty quiet, but now i have some thoughts.

regarding the discussion of this being a problem with 'mental health'. just how do you propose we find all these people? and once found, what do we do with them?

having just a few friends, being interested in mechanical things and guns, being a quiet introvert....none of these are crimes, nor a reason to medicate or confine someone. do you really want some govt paid shrink to determine your fate because you don't neatly fit in the round hole they have planned for you?

not me.

if you go down this road, you may as well hang it up. they have already won, just a matter of waiting for the van to come by and pick you up.

I checked into it in my county. $80.00. Why do they really need $80 ? If you knew some of the stupid things they have done/doing here with tax money. The fat clerks, sitting on their ass at the courthouse, will still get paid with or without me applying. I think it's just another way to gouge money out of people for them to waste on stupid projects.

I also think that ANYONE that carries should be properly trained or experienced. We have a fantastic (tax payer funded)law enforcement training range (some of it computer simulated) and live fire range. It is off-limits to the public. Why not have a free program to properly teach people how to handle and fire a handgun ? Especially, if they are CCW. The hardware is there and the instructors are still getting paid if they are eating donuts or training the public. There is no extra expense to the county or gov.

We're already compromised.

Can you tell me how anything you have proposed would have possibly resulted in any of the recent mass shootings being prevented, or the damage lessened?

Because I can provide plenty of evidence that mass shootings take place mostly in "gun free zones." I can provide plenty of evidence that the highest murder rates can almost exclusively be found in cities that ban guns/concealed carry.

We've already compromised on our 2nd amendment rights and, in turn, our safety.

Everything you propose will make a bunch of people feel better, but will only affect those that obey they laws and will prevent nothing.

The lefts definition of compromise is "The right gives in a little each time to our demands to change the constitution to fit our view".
