Default 95 Corvette Elecronic A/C Buttons Clean-up + 12V outlet

I'm working on installing two extra 12V plugs. One by the passenger door to supply power
for the GPS and add a triple outlet to the accessory cable underneath the console. I have to
remove the whole thing because I decided to buy the Corvette Central Pioneer Radio for
Betty Boop. The one in The Ghost works great, this radio support today's technology
with USB, AUX, Bluetooth etc.

I finished the one by the passenger door. It doesn't look pretty, but IDGAF because it is
my Vette and it is to help me on future road trips. The GPS cable hanging at the center
started to bother me. The cable isn't long enough to reach the plug if I stretch it thru the
sun visor and A pillar. The new 12v outlet location is perfect. I thought about installing
the plug on the panel, but there is a sheet metal behind the panel and foam and to avoid a
short I decided to do it this way.

Power Source from the "cigar" fuse.

Ground

This extra C4 Plastic was already cracked.

The center console skeleton is cracked in half.

Perfect for my needs!!

For the longest both Vettes have an issue with the AC biuttons, most of the time I have to
press two-four times for it or them to work. I've read few threads on "how to clean them up"
so I decided to take a step.

The casing has 4-5mm screws on the front and 2-5mm on the back.

This is the contact. I cleaned it up with an eraser and compressed/canned air.

Pete, I actually took mine apart, cleaned it and re-flowed all the solder joint because I didn't think it was working right, but it turns out the earlier years have a different program on the eprom on the unit.

did you know that you can't get cold air on just the top vents, but a/c works on all of the other settings? obviously my a/c works...the vent settings all change with the button, but it blew me away that it didn't work the same as on my 95. At the very least I cleaned it for the future. I think the original reason I took it apart was to diagnose the bad ambient temp reading. That turned out to be the sensor in the radiator inlet.

I swear...my car is mostly solid with the lower mileage, but all the little things on 90's GM cars are complete crap.

Pretty funny...Pete found 2-bits underneath all the plastic that was removed. Must have come from a factory worker. After seeing Pete's interior, not a very professional job in assembling all the plastic and wiring. Wonder if a Ferrari is the same?

I had a 2007 Toyota tundra for a few months until it got wrecked...but anyways, the point being that I found a tortilla wrapped in aluminum foil in the spare tire from the factory (Yes- they make those in San Antonio now).

You guys are good. That was for the car show era. All those parts have been removed and will be carbon fibered (fake) as part of this ongoing project.

This is how it used to look.

Had to replace that in my '93.....Took the cover off, looked at all the tiny parts, decided if I tried it the car would never drive again since I'd get p.o'd and chunk parts acrosss the shop. Took it to the shop on the way to work one day picked it up that evening. Writing the check was so much easier than buying replacement parts for the ones I broke in anger.

And the dash in my '86 is painted red too....It's kinda grown on me. May be cheesy but I kinda like it.

I took the column apart yesterday and learned that part is not broken. It is the plastic follower. I ordered one from ebay. A freaking rod goes from the lever to the end of the steering column. Not even Frankestein had such of thing.

UPDATE

I was at Pep Boys and saw something great. A 12V outlet and it was smaller than the
all others I've seen. I gave it few coats of liquid electrical tape.

Took some measurements and it would not touch the metal plate. I made a mod to the
mod already in place.

A small preview on Betty Boop's on-going project

Too much TV for me. When I saw this all I could think of was Captain Kirk asking Scottie how long it would take to get up to warp speed. "Aye capm, itll take deys". "Well Scottie you have 12 seconds"
