Tommy, I know you and I don't agree on lots of stuff, just like WhitePower said. But having a scare like that with one of your parents, I can only imagine, is an utter nightmare.
Kudos to you for getting folks out there to help him and I'm glad you were there to be able to provide that help he needed. It sure sounds like your dad is exceptional as a dad, and at beating the odds. My prayers for you, your father, and your family as he recovers from this. |

The praramedic that was on the call yesterday, came up this morning to check on my dad. She apologized, and said that that call had caused a stir...the dispatcher was terminated first thing this morning, along with her driver.
She said, she went up to dispatch when she got off yesterday to bite some heads off, because when my call was dispatched, it was sent out as non urgent, "older male, shortness of breath, working outside"... So she and the manager pulled the audio file, and the transcript...and she said, I clearly stated 3 times, he was having severe chest pain, no color in his face, tingling arms, no energy...and the dispatcher seemed to not be interested in that..concentrating more on his line of questioning... She said they were about 5 miles away when the call came in...but they came in no lights or sirens..stopping for traffic...she said they probably wasted 8 minutes. The driver was terminated for wasting an additional 3-4 minutes by taking the wrong route...twice. She said officially, the "bus to balloon" time, whhich is the time from when they take you off the ambulance, to the time they inflate the balloon in the artery...was 24 minutes...she said that assuming all goes perfectly...the whole call, odds of surviving a widowmaker is about 5-7%, and considering all that went wrong on this call...she was actually surprised to hear he had survived. He is set to come home tomorrow afternoon...I couldnt beleive it when they told us. |

Tommy, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. It sounds like a case of, "If anything can go wrong, it will." First the VA, now the ambulance. You, your Dad, and your family are in my prayers.

Hug him and tell him you love him every day. I lost my dad to a massive heart attack. He was 43 and passed away in his sleep.
Hope he recovers quickly. |

That's correct. Just because your Dad is repaired for now doesn't mean that he will automatically remain healthy. Heart attacks demand changes in diet, exercise, and lifestyle. For a few months, your Dad gets a free pass from a repeat attack, but after that he becomes as vulnerable as ever unless he makes changes.

Something that the paramedic reminded me of, after she listened to my 911 call...the first thing the guy asked me, after i told him my address and my dad was dieing...was "does he have insurance". Apparently i was so mad, id forgotten he even asked that.
