8/4

We all worked a full day at our regular jobs and then regrouped to finish off the block. Decided to add another coarse of 8's and then the 6's. Core filled it and put the anchors/rebar in. Glad to have the block done. Hopefully I can back fill this weekend.

It turned in to a big damn hole. haha

Where is the garage door gonna be?
It seems like you went too high with the blocks where the door will be.
Or are you blowing the back wall out?
I can't tell from the pics.

Ya the back wall is coming out. I wanted a door on the back but with the sloping grade and where I put the shed last year it would be a pain the ass.

The trusses run across the garage not with it so I can just tie the new side walls to the existing side walls without needing any bearing walls or headers. Pretty much just plan on removing the siding and sawzalling the back wall off.

8/9

The earth pile shrunk today, ran out of the good sandy stuff and I didn't want to put the black dirt on the inside of the hole so it looks like i need a couple dump truck loads of sand. I tamped the fill every bucket load with a plate compactor which was a pain in the ass but should provide good support for the wall.

The outside grade is starting to look a bit more normal at least.

Lets get that hole filled.

It ended up taking 54 tons of sand on top of what existing fill I took out which was pretty unexpected I didn't think I would be that short. It was a lot of work since we could not get to one of the corners with the skid so I shoveled a crap load. Oh well, anywho I'm guessing concrete in a couple weeks since its a holiday next weekend. Then I can get some wood up.

Looking good man! That is an azz of dirt for backfill.

Would be cool to construct a pit in the center that can be accessed from a stairwell inside. I'm sure that would be cheap.

Alrighty Visual progress has taken off again...

9-2
Siding is stripped, rebar mat is in and the block is knocked out.

9-5

Rented a buggy because wheel barrows sucked for the footings.

Took about 45 minutes to get the concrete out of the truck and in place. Not bad for 9 yards. I ended up matching the existing 6 inch pad The finishers did a damn good job with it too.

Took the concrete right through a big hole in the back wall made the whole process very painless.

9-7

Sealed the concrete turned out pretty nice.

I ordered all of the lumber and roofing material. The stuff for the walls will be here Friday I figured it didnt need to sit in my drive all week getting twisted. The trusses are scheduled to be built and delivered no later than the 22nd.

Looks nice.

I sure would like to have seen a moisture/vapor barrier under that slab.
And the steel elevated on chairs.
Lastly- expansion control, perimeter and joints. There will be cracks. All you can do is try to control them.

I look forward to seeing the build.

The mat floated fine in the mud, I was figuring the buggy would just sink chairs into the sand anyways since we had to drive in the hole and I have never seen expansion joints inside against the block just control joints tooled or saw cut.

As for the weekly update

9-13

Cut off the old soffit and got to some framing

9-14

Even started some spark since I have to wait for the trusses to arrive.

Some of the pictures are shit I guess my buddies Ikoolaid cant send me uncompressed images.

Looks great. Remember, you cannot have too many electrical outlets. Consider putting a few in the ceiling so you can have pull-down electrical cords for Battery tenders, etc.
