That feature is an extra $3/month.

I understand on services like Onstar, or GPS, or self-driving...but not features that you pay for in the sticker price.
Are the repairs covered in the subscription?
Just think of it like rent-to-own tires and wheels, only for people who aren't poor.

Kinda like OnStar. Never used it once. The 'Mero had a WiFi hotspot. Never used it once either.

I had a trial of Mercedes Concierge for...I think...$30/month. I never used it. Just cancelled it.

Our 2019 Acura RDX requires a subscription for remote start. Never subscribed. Going forward the only Honda product I *might* buy is a lawnmower. I think BMW was already requiring a subscription for Android Auto and Apple-whatever-crap they have.

So you're saying that you can push your own start button?

How very bourgeoisie of you.

To be fair, features that require cellular connectivity like remote start from a cellphone app are going to have a monthly fee for the cellular data plan that makes them possible. Now if the carmaker charges a rapacious markup over and above the price charged by the cellular carrier that's a different story.

My point is Chevys have had remote start on the key fob nearly 20 years. If you are so far away from the car to need cellular to connect IMO you have no business starting it. To get remote start ( on a nearly 50k car) you have to pay ~$120/year OR buy an additional fob at $400. The $120 a year gets you the app and connectivity. Now the car is perfectly happy to do software updates over my home WiFI but I can't use the app over the WiFi to start it.

If the dealer took the time to explain that all to me, I'd be out the door before he finished.

Full disclosure: In addition to remote start, the subscription includes Acura's OnStar-like service which has a lot of features, none of which are of interest to me.

I'm OK with the lack of remote start but had I known how horrible the entertainment system's interface was I'd have walked. It sounds fantastic but anything other than changing the volume requires using Acura's touchpad that isn't a touchpad. I think BMW started this nonsense with their "I-Drive" or whatever it's called, so I blame them for it as well.

I'm still getting used to not having a key.

No trouble with my start button but I do hate when the RDX motor stops at a light. There's an override button but you have to remember to push it every time you start the car. First World problems.

My Cruze does that, too. If you're really careful, and feather the brake just enough to get the car stopped, you can prevent that auto shut off from happening. There's no way to turn the feature off, though, and if I'm at a light that I know is going to be red for a couple of minutes, I don't even bother trying to not engage the auto shut off feature. It's when you're in stop and go traffic that it becomes annoying, although I have noticed that once the car does the auto shut off and back on a couple of times in rapid succession, it generally doesn't do it again. Maybe that's programmed in by the engineers?

Wifie's 2020 Chevy Bolt has remote start and other remote features on a smartphone app - I don't recall seeing any remote start on the fob. At least Chevy (and the Ford Fusion she had previously) includes a few years' worth of cellular service bundled into the price of the car.

Like it or not, that's the future.

GMC sent me a survey asking if I would pay monthly or as used for things they are coming out with....I told them no chance I would.

My Grand Cherokee had ESS and I hated it. And yes, I'd usually forget to press the button on the dash.

My Gladiator supposedly has ESS along with a dash button to turn it off, but it has never activated. And I'm OK with that.

Some of us pay monthly just to use the damn vehicle. I don't want to have to pay another monthly fee to use the features that supposedly come with the vehicle.

Could you imaging having to pay $0.05 every time you used the turn signals? Or $0.05 per mile for using cruise control? Or $0.25 every time the A/C kicked in? Or $0.75 every time you turn on the defroster? **** that shit. I'd rather buy a horse and a buggy.
