My dad never talked about his VN experience until near the end. I don’t know if it was because he was spit on, committed acts he didn’t care to share, or he was horrified by the experience. I do know that he was pissed that he never got the welcome home and gratitude that Gulf War vets received.

My feeling is that the people who realized the shame in those acts were not the ones that perpetrated those acts on our servicemen. It was the next generation that realized the injustice of the "Peace Movement" aka hippies treatment of our military. It was this next generation that took it upon themselves to show our uniformed men and women that their efforts and sacrifices were appreciated. Don't give credit to the movement/ideology that made Jane Fonda for righting that wrong.

Voting age didn't change from 21 to 18 until 1971. Drinking age was 18 in only a few states until it changed to 21 universally in the '80s.

You could not drink legally in California in 1970 until you were 21. Or vote in 1970 until you were 21. Look up the 26th Amendment
