These are kits from Rockler. You buy the metal part, that has a threaded end that fits into a threaded insert that you put into the wood.

all kinds of stuff.

Mrs. DAB got me a knife kit a few years ago, with cocobolo scales (book matched), nice light/dark contrast to them. carry that knife everyday.

the knife kit only requires simple hand tools, others benefit from a lathe.
