I haven't heard anything of a preemptive strike by the US which means if it did happen, it would be as a direct response. Do you think it is "irrational" for the US to intervene with force if North Korea starts launching missiles at people?

Since you clearly don't agree with the threat of using force against NK if they were to actually do what they threaten, what, exactly should Trump be saying? How would YOU handle this situation?

No. North Korea has done quite a few acts of war over the years, not the least of which is the sinking of the cheosun, S. Korea's warship. It needs to be clearly enunciated that one more incident like that will lead to the death of Kim and everyone he cares about. Appeasement is over.

Flowery language just makes Kim see more legitimate. He is a brutal dictator. He doesn't merit th3 usual and customary deference.

Don't be obtuse. Trump is trying something alright, but he's not just going the belligerent Let's Go To War route. He does need to make that a distinct possibility in the eyes of China and NK however, in order for the concessions he seeks from China to happen. There has to be enough uncertainty in their minds that he really would pull the trigger. China is the only entity that can fix the NK problem peacefully. We have a ton of leverage with China. It comes in the form of their economy, as in they won't have much of one if we stop doing business with them. Trump has quietly set his pieces in place, the latest was the new banking rules in the presidential order he put out last week, and the trade ban for individual entities that continue to do business with NK. We can now unilaterally cut all business and holdings with a Chinese corporation, on an individual basis, and seize their assets until they stop.

Once again, those who don't like or understand Trump fall over and over into this trap: They take everything he says literally, but not seriously. His supporters take him seriously, but not literally. All you need to know in order to understand Trump's motivations is that he really does love America and wants to see it do better. Going to war with China would not make America better. Letting Rocket Man continue with his nuclear program would not make American better. So, what to do? Easy really. Scare the shit out of China and the NK, and give China an easy way out - they just have to finally deal with their pet rogue state. Kim is not really a leader of a sovereign nation. He's the petty asshole governor of a part of China, one the Chinese have used since the Korean War as a proxy for their foreign policy. We know this. They know we know this. If China wants to become a part of the global economy as a partner in good standing, they need to cut their shit and take care of their guy in Pyongyang.
