As long as your mom is healthy and can make a drive like that (4 hours total), OK. If that might be a little beyond her capabilities, spring for the Uber or other taxi service. I know my own Mom wouldn't be capable of a drive like that.

weather is clearing up, mom is headed up shortly, will stay the night at nearby hotel (we as a family know it well, right across the street), and bring dad some supplies he wants. dad's eating pretty good (they do have good food, having spent almost a week there myself a few years ago) and watching TV. i'll call him again shortly.

i'm guessing they keep him a few more days, to get the pneumonia to clear up a bit.

Tell her to check with the hospital about hotels/motels. They often have a deal with one or more close to the hospital for a discounted rate. Glad to hear your dad is doing okay.

Another tip, if your dad has any heart trouble history they probably have him on a salt free diet. I smuggle salt packets to my wife whenever she is in the hospital.

Yeah, they do that at our local hospital here. Actually the food there is more like ordering off a menu at a restaurant. Pretty good food, too. I pig out at the cafeteria on Mondays when I volunteer. We eat for free and I have a great breakfast and lunch. Had eggs Benedict this week.

from my time in the same hospital, i recalled that the food was pretty good, even if you were limited to the cardiac menu.

It's all part of a bold new concept in health care. People tend to be more comfortable and heal better when they are eating and enjoying the food. Who knew?

A few years back, the head of the Dietary dept at our hospital was a graduate of the Culinary Arts Institute. On Thanksgiving and Christmas he would put out a Prime Rib/Turkey buffet for anyone who had to work on the holiday and their spouses. Better than any restaurant in our small town.

dad of course has a TV to watch, his only complaint is that it doesn't have BIG10 network, so he couldn't watch the Michigan basketball game today.

it's ok dad, the game will go on without you. they play again tomorrow, about 10am MT. he's likely to be on the road at that point. he'll call me for updates.

My wife goes nuts in the hospital because there is no Food Network or other cooking channels there.

But they have like 4 or 5 ESPN channels. It seems they decide the channels by surveying doctors who are mostly men.
