Barry Switzer wants Mike Leach to be the next Oklahoma coach.

Not a crazy idea. Knee-jerk reaction is Oklahoma should of course get the next young superstar coach out there somewhere, but Mike Leach goes to garbage programs in Power 5 leagues and routinely beats the big boys with a huge talent advantage over him. Texas Tech is a trash program, Washington State is a trash program, and Mississippi State, while slightly better than that, is in the SEC West and the 7th best out of 7 programs in that division.

I'd love to see what Mike Leach could do if you gave him a bunch of 4 and 5 star players and 5 star QBs instead of the 2-3 star guys he coaches up and into leading football in yards and TDs.

I'd love to see coaches live up to the contracts they agreed to and signed. I hold no hope of that happening.

Maybe good for college football but a huge blow to OU. Rattler has entered the transfer portal already and I expect Williams will follow Riley to USC. Highly rated committed recruits are de-committing. Unless they hire a very high profile coach in the next week or two, they'll have their worst recruit class of the century. I fear they will become the Kansas of the SEC.

That would be an interesting choice. Leach was the OU OC before going to Texas Tech and launched the air raid offense there. And he groomed Riley when Riley was at Tech. Some of my friends in Oklahoma say Bob Stoops might be in play. He's only 61 and has had time to rest up a while.

Navy - and whoever is playing Norte Dame. Military academies will never be championship contenders again because, unlike major colleges, they have a different mission than semi-pro sports and keeping donors happy.

I have not heard Leach's name mentioned and I doubt he is being considered. But he has done well with what he has had at all his stops. Stoops is the current interim coach and is already on the recruiting trail tonight. I seriously doubt he will become a permanent head coach anywhere in the future.

Former OU defensive coordinator, and current Clemson DC, Brent Venables was in Norman this afternoon.

Venables... that would work! He has some fire for sure and maybe a good time to get out of Clemson. Good that Stoops can step in until things get settled.

Was hoping you would weigh in with some local news. I'm trying to get in contact with a friend there that's pretty close to the program to see if he's hearing anything. No luck so far.

The local sports media is pounding Riley for how he left. Allegedly he was going to leave without talking to the team. He allegedly was persuaded to talk to the team and that it was a two-minute talk with the team. Allegedly, They also said that Riley said the first time he was he was aware of the USC offer was Saturday night after the OU vs OSU game.

They are also saying he left because he didn't want to coach in the SEC. One of the reporters at OU press conference today asked OU's AD Joe Castiglione if they had conversations with Riley about the SEC move and they were on the same page. He asked if they were on the same page with the resources needed and he said they were.

Hard to believe he would leave without addressing the team. Very sorry behavior if true, and maybe it's just me but I'm thinking 2 minutes, if true, shows a side of him we haven't seen. Again, sorry behavior if true.

He would have to have made some changes to compete in the SEC although SEC offenses seem more and more like those in the Big 12.

What is the local media saying about Caleb Williams? Will he follow Riley?

Riley has always been very tight lipped and non-transparent with the media. A few have commented that he is insecure but has a very large ego.

The well respected media members don't believe he will stay and a priority for the current staff is to convince him to stay. Along with hiring a new coach and having him convince Williams to stay. He will probably only play two more years so his window to learn and accel is small. That being said, he didn't play football his senior year of high school so the only football he had played is last spring and this year's fall games.
