Tulip Festival
My wife talked me into attending the Orange City, Iowa Tulip Festival a couple of weeks ago. Photos included:
Wooden shoes are big down there: I was told their local high school band marched in the Rose Bowl parade. When they do that they wear out a complete set of wooden shoes down to their socks! No Corvettes in the parade but lots of old tractors. Wooden shoe dancers in the street. Even the little ones get involved. Before the parade the men and boys wash the streets. Water gets splashed on more than just the streets. All involved get wet even a few spectators. Naturally the women and girls get the job of sweeping the street. Lots of pretty girls dressed in period costumes like these tulip queens. The spectators are the ones who reveal a lot more. Naturally there are many varieties of tulips on display and for sale. Tulips lined many of the streets in the town. City park had large areas of tulips. I didn't take my Corvette because we were camping in the city park campground for several days as this is a three day event with plenty of Dutch food and two parades every day. I remove the rear seat and install a 3/4 size mattress in the back converting my Blazer into my mini-motorhome. In the evening we attended the production of Fiddler on the Roof. One of the most professional productions I have ever seen amateurs put on, but they have a lot of local talent with Northwestern College in town. |

I was worried about you going to a tulip festival. Thought maybe your wrist was getting a little limp.. and your MAN card would have to be pulled . Sweets is right, the cooler full of beer saved your reputation, but just barely........WW

Speaking of the Dutch and since it's Memorial Day in the U.S., My late father had befriended a Dutch family when he and the Canadian Army helped liberate Holland during WWII. They had stayed in touch for over 60 years until both of their deaths a few years back. He once received Tulip Bulbs from them a way back in the early 60's and I can still remember to this day, my dad planting them in front of his house and telling me the story.(One of his few stories he would ever tell about the war) Remarkably they are still there to this very day, whether they are the original ones or not, I have no idea. Just another small story about the "Greatest Generation" |

You guys are letting me down... I see tulips and thinking one of you made the comparison. Which is better, roses on a piano or tulips on an organ?
