Where is all the ammo??

I have been online all day trying to buy some 223 ammo for my new toy, I have been to every site on the internet and still can't find any place that even has one box of ammo..These gun owners are frigen crazy, they have not only bought up all the ammo, but I can't even find any gun powder or bullets "in any caliber" so I can load my own ammo. What is wrong with these people, are they expecting the government to ban all ammo for every gun ever made... I just want to go shoot. I have this great new M4 and only have the 40 rounds of ammo I got with the gun..A couple of (Gun Experts) on comcast are saying it could be a year before supplys are back on the shelf.....WW

It doesn't make any sense to me either. I think some people have been buying it to turn a profit. The prices have gone through the roof too. I can't see normal ammo being banned so it doesn't make much sense to hoard it. I've heard 223 is one of the hardest hit. Didn't someone say the government bought up a sh-t load of ammo also.

I don't know? had a hard time even finding birdshot last weekend (I did though). Pistol stuff isn't so bad, it seems to be .223 mostly.

I found some over inflated 308 and 7.62x39 in stock, but the telling thing to me was something I overheard at Dillon Precision in Scottsdale (I go there every year since my brother literally lives a couple of miles away)-

They said that they had nearly 250 back-orders for .223 dies... that after selling out their current stock, and every reloading supplier everywhere else. And to think what a small percentage of people reload. There won't be any bullets for that I wouldn't think. I always thought that the only reason people shot AR's was because the ammo was more affordable??? may as well go another route.

A few years ago I started buying powder in 8 lb cans instead of the one lb cans=cheaper. I would then repour the powder into 8 one lb cans. This lets ambient air exchange in just one can as it is used while the remaining 7 cans/lbs remain static regarding storage humidity. Not always easy to find though but worth it if you buy in bulk.

Good catch, Pete! Most of those Aussie rifles are bolt action Lee Enfield ww1 and ww2 rifles, hardly "Assault" weapons, but hey, why worry about details when you're busy shearing the sheep....I mean,...protecting the citizens from themselves...

Time for a thread revival...

I'm starteng to see a SLIGHT increase in ammo availability over the last couple of weeks. The local gun shop had Federal 5.56 XM855 for about $.72/rd. in stock. Granted, that's still double what it was a couple of months ago but still a step in the right direction.

Cabella's had some El Cheapo .223 listed yesterday that got snatched up.

I'm guessing we're looking at at least 6-8 months before we are able to start seeing things close to "normal" again, and even that is assuming that the libf*cks don't manage to find a way to cause another panic.

I just did a quick search on gunbroker. I always use the XM855 as a gauge of the market as it is about the most common 5.56 round out there. What I see is a lot of people looking to get $.70/rd and getting no bids. That is a VERY good thing considering that less than a month ago, dipshits were bidding that stuff over $2.00/rd.

I did manage to get a case of 124gr brass cased 9mm for about $.19/rd which isn't too far out of line last week.

Bryan, most of what Im seeing is the oddball stuff like 62gr 223 ammo for sale. I haven't seen very much "normal" 55gr stuff yet.. I see the ammo sites trying to get almost $1.00 a round for any of the 55gr 223 ammo they do happen to get and just like what you said, there isn't anyone buying at that priice..I would only be interested in ammo in brass anyway, steel cased ammo won't let me reload... Im having trouble getting the bullets and powder so I can load my own stuff.. I agree with you that it's going to be awhile until things are back to normal and I don't know if the prices will ever be back to normal...I guess all we can do is wait and see........WW

Hey now... some of us love the 62gr stuff. It's really all I buy unless I find a great deal on something else.

62 and heavier is all I shoot out of the 1/7 twist Colts. The only thing I have in 55gr is some PMC Bronze and some 90s tracer rounds that I picked up to go plinking with.
