Betty Boop's Bearings & Brakes
Few weeks ago I started to change the brakes on Betty Boop. While working on the rear-right I inspected
the bearing and there was a bit of a play there, the rear-left was worse. She has 129,000 miles I figured it was about right for them to go bad. Two years ago I replaced the front-left with an old one I had in my stash. I figure, it would be a great time to get all four of them replaced with new ones. While I was removing the hub, I noticed the monospring bushings were too dry and play on the control rods bushings. These bushings were installed in May 2008, this is the second time I've encountered VBP's bushings to contract. I was already ordering few parts from Summit Racing , and added the bushings to the order. Now is the part were many of you are going to love Like I mentioned SKF does not make hubs for the C4, but they do for the Camaro. A reliable source told me the Camaro's SKF bearing do work on C4s. This person races his Vette, and the bearings never failed. If they are good for a racer, they got to be great for Betty Boop. They fit using the same hardware. The Camaro calls for 63 lbs-ft I installed the nuts, and were hand-tight. there is no need to install those nuts, those bolts will not come loose. The Camaro doesn't use nuts. |

Let me know what you think of those Poly bushings. Mine are still low mile, but I don't see them lasting past 60k miles.
I can't recall how I did mine, but I didn't reinstall the ABS wire clip bracket- the Camaro hubs fit and you just don't need that part. I was tempted to drill the threaded hub flange threads out, but I just did the same as you and hung the nuts on the end of the bolts just in case I ever need one again. My fronts are still totally tight after almost a year. |

Partial slots are the new cool street rotor. I heard they make less noise than full slots, but still vent gas well.

I'll wait to do this until you're on your next continental road trip. You'll need to plan more time here than just dinner at the BBQ joint though.

I do the same thing. I research to find what I want, specific brand or not, then I burn up the internet to find the cheapest vendor.

The project continues with a newer Pioneer. This one has all the old stuff plus bluetooth.
This is how I chose to install the microphone. All is very Corvette purist, Betty Boop is one step closer to achieve NCRS Top Flight. Drilled a hole next to the 12V outlet. The mic fit perfect for its purpose, and will not be seen with the lid closed. There are fires in SoCal, these guy were flying very high. I wondered if Canada have these planes with flame throwers. The instructions from Crutchfield are better, they have more detail, and the radio fits better. The POS old Bose's rear plate needs to be removed. Will use a small tool to accomplish this mission Done It fits better than before. This radio's dimensions are identical to the previous radio, but this one is a bit deeper. I'm doing a test with some LED bulbs I have. The super bright pharmacy look is not the greatest looking interior lighting, so I gave this one a thin coat of fluorescent orange. done Here it is. Called my mother to wish her a happy mom's day, and to test the microphone. It works load & clear, Betty Boop with new window tint. Yes, I know Sweet also has a DRM, but as you can tell there is no 25' snow wall around Betty Boop. Next, I got to drill, and install a third 12v outlet. |
