Default Unlocking a Boost Phone?

Is there any way that a Boost phone can be unlocked so it can be used by another carrier?

the rule-of-thumb is that within the same format; yes.

But even though Boost cells use a SIM card; it's not compatible with all carriers that have SIM's.

Boost is IDEN; and even thogh T-Mobile and AT&T also have SIM card phones - they are GSM. IDEN and GSM are not cpompatible.

Although, i remember reading that IDEN was going away. There's a possibility your Boost phone ( if it's a newer one) can work other carriers. What model is it ?

the Prevail was Boosts first CDMA phone; which is in your favor.

But ... just found this:

Quote:
The Samsung Prevail can not be unlocked, for use with any other network or service provider ... other than Boost Mobile.

Because it is from a prepaid phone provider and network (Boost), it was designed and programed to be incompatible with other networks.

When you take one of these to an unlocking expert (or any prepaid phone, such as NET10, Tracfone, Virgin Mobile) ... they will be able to "unlock", up to a point ... but hit a dead end at the Enterprise Level of firmware and coding.

This also means that the Prevail can not be used on the Sprint network, even though it is a CDMA phone, and essentially piggy-backs off of their network.

This answer applies to all Boost Mobile phones, and all those in the Virgin Mobile network as well.

but then; found this:

Quote:
you must obtain your MSL (Master Service Lock) number a six digit code unique inky to your phone. You can actually get that number through Boosts automated system 611 or by speaking to a customer service Rep.
On your dial pad you'll want to enter ##3282# you'll see a dialog appear asking for your MSL number, enter it. To edit you'll. have to enter it again. There is also ##33284# it asks for the MSL just enter 777468 (SPRINT) that's another menu. Also typing ##MSL NUMBER# allows you to change the MDN and other number. Just do a search on Sprint programming codes because they work and I've been a Boost Mobile customer since 2007.
