I was in third grade when the principle came oner the P.A. and told us the president had been shot. About 45 min. later she came back and told us he was dead. School was cancelled for 5 days. A sad time for this country.

College class, after some activity with the prof......class dismissed pretty much on time.....Univ of Md. College Park Md....just off US1 north of DC.....
and upon leaving class a bunch of students listening to a port radio....block the hallway...I pushed my way around them saying something about the radio...and they said Prez was shot, I said BS, they said NO, LISTEN!!!! spent the next several daze in the dorm listening to TV......phones jammed with calls, so no contact with family/folks..... after nearly a week, Dad showed up and I went home for a week+..... |

10 years old, I was in 5th grade.
There wa a tv in the room, and the teacher turned it on after the announcement was made. Walter Chronkite was narrating a bunch of breaking news from his ear piece, but it didn't make much sense until I got home. I don't recall how long we stayed at school, perhaps 30 minutes, but we were dismissed early that day. |
