Man, it's been since the early 80's, me working that metal detector company, and I had the same experience......nukey plant somewhere along the east coast here.....talk about LOUD and vibration!!! I was shocked that a building THAT massive could be shaking that much....... amazed the concrete did not shatter.......containing a nuclear bomb takes a bit of effort.....

Brother-in-Law took me fishing up the Tittabawassee River in his boat once (the one who drowned a year ago). Near a certain chemical company the water was fizzing like soda pop and the fumes burned your eyes with the smell of vinyl chloride. That was a unique experience and 100% man made (supposing you consider the politicians who license corporations to dump that shit in the river human).

I heard there were people still catching and eating carp and other bottom feeders out of that river even at the height of its toxic notoriety. Dow Chemical sure did a number on that area.

Not a place you'd want to live downwind of. I drive through occasionally with the vents closed and windows rolled up. Windshield can be misted without a cloud in the sky. Smell's disgusting, the people who live there get used to it so I suppose they'd say it's a nice place to live, you just don't want to visit

Not really an “odd” place but definitely an eerie sensation

Laying on my back between the rails underneath box cars checking the shock absorbers that fit behind the couplers. This was in a rail yard where there were parallel tracks that cars were moving on. Every time I heard that boom, boom, boom of slack running out of a train on one of those tracks

Laying under the keel of a nuclear aircraft carrier. In dry dock. With a 50lb fire extinguisher.

Nothing like close to 97,000 tons of steel 3 feet above your head!

Also, checking the welds and paint thickness inside the ballast bulb of the same aircraft carrier. VERY few people have ever been inside that.

I was in the Navy with SUPSHIP (and also Firewatch Division), and before the radiographic inspection (X-ray), they would do a visual/DPT to make sure there wasn't anything easily seen first.
I really wasn't personally inspecting, but I was watching the process and made sure they were using the process correctly as written, etc.

In other words, they had to show me their results/proof of testing.

No, in the yard (NNSY, at least when I was there!), they would RT all welds that penetrated the hull, as well as any flight deck repairs.
If there was a void seen, someone with a carbon arc system would cut it out, then reweld, and re-RT that area.

Also the same type of testing on the nuke cruiser I was on as well.
