Maybe contact the dealership's insurance company with the video. I'm certain they'd like to be aware of their risks associated with this particular dealership, especially since the guy is still working for them and presumably still taking customer cars for test rides.
Just explain to the dealership that what you're doing is in the best interest of everyone living in the community. Then go to the local Channel 3 On Your Side. I'd take my "pound of flesh" outta the dealership as settlement for this bullshit. |

When that doesn't happen, then I always suspect the offending dealership employee is a:
* son * son-in law * nephew * cousin * live-in boyfriend of daughter (on work release) of a higher-up within the dealership. Years ago... a similar thing happening at a well known dealership in the area. They seemed to do the right thing; fired the employee immediately. But a crafty person called the dealership about a month later, asking for the person by name. Sure enough, the phone call was transferred to the "fired" employee. Found out later that the employee was a nephew of the dealerships owner. Liars. |

My best friend back in the early '80's was a salesman at a Chebby dealership.
He often brought home brand new IROC's, Vettes, ets, with which we summarily beat the piss out of. Cars are meant to be beat and put up wet. If they can't handle the heat in the kitchen, they ain't worth driving. That video showed a very restrained test drive, sans the 94 mph speed, which was probably just part of the test. In a 45 mph zone was probably a bad idea, but other than that, he did nothing wrong. One caveat to the video though... If it was my car, I'd ask for a private audience with the guy who test drove it. |

On the other side of the coin its always fun having a customers complaint of a problem that requires you to drive over the area's posted speed limit. You tell them nope that's against the law and you will not do it.A few get quite steamed.

Back in 1997 I special ordered a SLP built SS Camaro Vert 6spd from my local dealership. I had bought a lot of loaded new cars and trucks out of that dealership and made it known there were to be no test rides without me being present. I spent much money there and was well known.
A friend of mine that was a mechanic there called me up and told me my car was on the truck outside the dealership. As I only lived about 4 miles away I was there to see it come off the truck and carefully driven to the inside "special storage" where they kept the better cars (like Vettes) no problem. The keys were by agreement to be kept locked in the sales managers office not in the regular key box. Again no problem It was a Saturday AM when the car arrived and do to finance and DMV I could not get the car till Monday 3 PM. About 11 clock on Monday my mechanic friend called me up and told me you car is being driven around rather recklessly on the road by the owners son. A young punk about 17 but he had keys that let him get my locked up keys I found out. I made it down to the dealership at warp factor 8, the car was parked in the special area again and it was dirty and hot. I went looking for the driver but someone alerted him I was looking to "discuses" with him about my car being driven. He jumped into a lot car and left the lot fast. At that time I had a well know temper and was know to go hands on. The sales manager came back from lunch and I told him about and showed him the car & the owners son gone. Got to admit they did their best to make it right, I got in writing all oil changes (mob1)and inspections free, for as long as I owned car and a 5 year extended warranty for my promise I would not confront the kid Every time after I showed up the owners son was not to be seen. |

I may be in the minority, but if I have my vehicle repaired, I WANT it road tested. I've been having some intermittent electrical issues with my truck, and each time I've left it, I've specifically asked the mechanic to drive it as much as possible so hopefully the problem will manifest itself to him.
Having said that, the repair required for the Vette doesn't seem like something that a road test could help shake out. You really wouldn't be able to know if the air bag is in good shape without crashing the car, so if you aren't going to do that, what good is a road test? |
