Default Not A Good Day Today

Eye doc says my AMD went from dry to wet, not good. Received the first needle injection in the left eye which is the first if three of the regimen every month. Depending on how the eye takes the medication, this may be a routine procedure for the rest of my life.........or go blind.

Later on in life my mom at the eye dr. couldn't see the big E.

Damn, that sucks. Prayers that the injections work. On the bright side, even at worst case, it's only one eye effected, if I'm reading right. If the injections work, will it restore current vision loss, or will it prevent further damage, or both?

Thanks all.

I still have AMD in the right eye as well, but the dry condition is still there, it's when it changes to the wet is where the problems are. At this point, the injections are supposed to keep the eye from getting worse, maintaining current sight. There is a high rate of success keeping it in check with this procedure. I'm not a candidate for any corrective surgery, I'm just getting old.

My 88 year old MIL is getting those shots and is holding steady in that eye for many years now

You'll be fine Norm

I'm truly sorry to read of this news, Norm.

I can relate a bit to what you're going through, though, if it's any consolation to you at all. Back in 2001 I was diagnosed with Pars Plantitis (a form of Intermediate Uveitis), a fairly rare autoimmune eye disease. I know how much the steroid injections suck ass, I have had several.

I'm on my fourth ophthalmologist, one who specializes in this condition...have also done the whole Johns Hopkins/Georgetown University/NIH route, with 3 different kinds of of immunosuppressive chemotherapy treatments to try and get it into remission (not there yet). The one big thing with steroid injections is a risk of developing a cataract in the eye(s) it is injected in...which I ended up with in my left eye and needed the lens replacement surgery and vitrectomy done (replacement of interior eye fluid). Another risk is glaucoma (high eye pressure), which I also have...there are eye drops for that at least.

I understand how worrisome it is when it comes to reading that eye chart, the fear of losing one's eyesight and how much we depend on it for our hobby and daily life in general. My thoughts and prayers are going out to you on the preservation of your vision for years to come.

Geez, sorry to hear the bad news Norm. I hope with modern technology it gives you far better odds at keeping the problem at bay.
