Default Talk to me about new tv's

My 2004 55" plasma hdtv picture just went out. I'm not gonna try to fix it. There are too many advancements since then ...I no longer want the tv anymore.

I need something that will fit on an 11" wide shelf that's 60" long. It would be great if it can be mounted to the wall on the same wall-mount hardware that holds my current tv. Not sure if that's possible these days.

I know nothing about the current generation of tv's... refresh rates, pixels, smart tv's, qled's, etc.

For a budget of about $4,000 or less, what would you recommend? I don't watch a whole lot of TV, mainly over-the-air local channels and some One America News and Netflix on my AppleTV. But I tend to buy pretty close to current cutting edge technology just because I keep things for as long as they continue to work... I don't upgrade a functional device just because I can.

I'll school you about TVs.

1. Buy TV
2. Plug in TV
3. Sit on ass.

Boom. You're welcome.

Pretty much it.

While in the store you can tell $4,000 from $400, once it's in your house, meh.

I have a $2000.00 TV upstairs and a $400.00 TV downstairs and I'm good with both.

You really don't need to spend all THAT much to get a great set ....

Look at the samsung 4K models 60 or 65 inch you should be able to get what you want for under 1500

---- I don't know, so no.

Active dimming is absolutely something you'll want, and you'll want direct-lit rather than edge-lit if your buying a standard LCD. I'd stay away from OLED, currently. Too many kinks/drawbacks for too much $$$.
----

I assume a smart TV would be desirable to get rid of your Apple TV? Newer sets have Netflix, Youtube, etc all built in.
---- I'll have to make sure One America News is available. It was my understanding that if I didn't have DirecTV that the only other option was am ATV.

What size is the TV mount you're using now? Standard VESA mount? Most new TVs are far lighter than older ones - even my 70" set isn't exactly heavy. I'd bet you could support just about any size you wish with a newer LCD set since they're nowhere near as heavy as the big sheets of glass used in plasmas. My old 60" plasma weighed more than double my 70" LCD.
---- Don't know what the mount is but the old plasma weighs half a metric shit-ton. My handyman and I got it installed by ourselves and it damned near killed us.

IMO - don't spend $4k or even close. You can pick up a very good 70" 4K smart TV for $1500 to $2k from a major brand and not even worry about it.
---- Cool, thanks.

So, is any brand pretty much as good as another or should I stay away from some?

Also what about the curved screens? Not sure why I would want that. It's mounted about 5' high and about 15' or more from my viewing area.

LG OLED 4k tv without a doubt, Amazon just had one for 2,999, so keep an eye out for a sale and don't look back.

Stay away from sharp, I keep going back to LG or Samsung, but LG has the lock on the OLED tv's which is where two of my buddies have already gone and I hope to follow shortly.

The LG curved OLED isn't very curved so it really makes the 3D pictures pop and makes a large tv just fit in a corner. If it's not going in a corner I don't know that I'd pay more for a curved tv. Some of the sharper curves on a curved tv will reflect light right down the middle of the screen making it damn near unwatchable withou blackout curtains.

50 inch, 350 bux, Walmart.......nuff said..... in FACT people do not really watch TV, it's on, and they listen....but in FACT the eyes are all over the room, maybe 10% of the time looking at the screen.....

so why waste the $$$ on something truly GRAND?? it goes unnoticed in a couple daze at most.....

You'll likely want to purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse to accompany your smart TV. Slogging your way through YouTube, Netflix, internet browser and other features on the standard remote becomes very time-consuming once you start using it as a keyboard.

Oh- thanks for the translation.
