What has happened to it
There was never a voting thread for Jan. and I was supposed to pick a topic for Feb. (which I did) but nothing ever came of it...

I see you posted the Feb photo thread. I can't make peep participate. With only one entry you win. Try doing a March thread and pick a topic everyone can do.

Jan winner will pick April topic.

I don't care if I win or won,I'll pass on picking next topic. But will participate.

Just roll all of the OT sections into OT.

The number of regular posters and the frequency of photography, cooking, politics, etc. threads doesn't warrant separate forums, and enforcing them only leads to any attempts at discussing those topics being DOA.

You've also relaxed attack mode on political topics. My point is I think 99.99% of the posters here are pretty damn respectful of one anothers opinion. (good on you BTW) But it wasn't always that way.

Well like I said I think it's pretty clear if you just look at the sections in Off Topic.....but, not my baby so last thing I'm saying about it.....foto on !!

First a couple comments about the contests/polls...

Wendy has been gracious to set up the polls for the past several months and we need to make it easier on her - I created a few polls for the contests and it was always a chore to be sure all the entries were included and that the right photos were selected for the entries. Multiple photos by the same person are great, but whoever makes the poll has to know which picture is the 'entry'. I suggest going forward we have a standing rule that the first photo each participant posts is their official entry unless they clearly indicate they want to use another photo before the contest closes.

I think using attachments instead of linking to a photo sharing site complicates it too, though she may have figured a way around that.

Also, we ended up with the winner for the month creating the contest for a couple months out and that's confusing. Unless a winner who hasn't created a contest yet objects, we should start over with the winner creating the next contest as soon as a poll closes.

As to the forum sections, personally I kinda like having it separate as I can tell quickly if someone has posted photos I might want to see without looking through all the OT posts but I usually have an OT tab open in my browser so not a big thing. Maybe if we consolidate into OT, we could just agree to put "Photo" or something in the subject.

Finally, while the intent of the contest it to get people out shooting and one of the usual rules has been that the photo should be taken during the contest month, a year or so back participation had dropped way off. We had a contest where the topic was "Post your best photo ever". I think we had 20 or so entries and some great photos and at least for a while, it seemed participation was up. Maybe it's time to try that again.

I would think Wendy has to decide on any changes and I do agree that multiple pictures should be the foto takers obligation to let her know......or......none count if not answered 24 hours after she asks.....1 time.

Ok, we will try this in OT to see how it works.


It will be made a sticky in OT and once the contest is over the thread will be moved to Perfect Pic Section. Instead of us creating a separate voting thread, a poll will be added at the end of the contest for everyone to vote for the best or their favorite picture.

New Standing Rules:
The first photo each participant posts is their official entry unless they clearly indicate they want to use another photo before the contest closes.

Pictures entered have to be taken that month unless the Subject Chooser designates the contest open to "best picture".

If the contest is opened to "best picture", you can not enter a picture that has won a previous contest here at the Barn.

Winner chooses the next contest subject. In the event of a Tie, a run off vote between the winners will take place.

These rules will be posted in each contest.
