Default How much longer do you think

They will keep making "stick shift" cars ?.....I would hate to see them go away but looks like it might.

I think it's too late.... Millennials & tattoo artists have already forgotten what an M/T is.

They will live forever in the enthusiast market. As to availability in a new car?
Who knows? I guess as long as the buying public wants more of them than it costs the manufacturers to offer them.

I guess for the nostalgic market, manuals will live on. The newest automatics are faster, more efficient and more able to handle real torque than the manuals. If you have not had the pleasure of downshifting on the steering wheel while the electronics do the heel/toe for you, you're missing out. These are not your mom and dad's Mercury Marquis. If you are concerned with performance, the automatics have caught up for all but the most esoteric applications.

For the most part not much longer and the companies that are STILL making a stick will be charging for it. Heck try to buy a good new pick up truck up to a ton and you will hardly find one on the lot.

My son drives double bottom tractor trailers (AKA two trailers one horse) his whole fleet (40) is all autos now and the owner has said he doubts he will ever buy another manual.

As for me my latest Vette (15) is a auto, having a bad left leg and knee made my decision. Had many other performance cars and 6 previous Vettes and they were all stick!

I found this commercial for the Toyota Corolla hatch back showing the manual in their commercial. I sadly think their days are numbered also though.

Majority of cars in Europe are standards.

I've been driving a little over 50 years now and except for a few years with an '85 Corvette, all my personal vehicles have been manual. And every time I started the engine in that '85, I wished it was a standard.

I'm ok driving an automatic for transportation, but when driving for enjoyment, it has to be a standard. While I love the technology of the dual clutch autos that shift in milliseconds, I prefer to do my own heel and toe, thank you.
