Is there a way to have it open by default instead of having to click the Quick Reply button on a post?

Yes, it is possible.

However, Vbulletin advises to NOT set it that way because of the threaded display option (set in your UserCP).

The reason being, is "the click" attaches your quick reply to a specific post...This is meaningless in the linear view (default view setting) because your reply will always appear next in the thread after submitting your post.

However, it will not in the threaded view because of the system "not knowing" what is a reply to what post.
In the threaded mode, everything acts like a quote reply, except without the quoted content. You can see who was replying to what post. (if that makes sense to you).

I suspect very few (if any) actually use the threaded or hybrid view options, so if the decision is made to change to the "no click" quick reply, we will also disable the option of using threaded/hybrid views.

Would like to hear some more opinions about this before changing it, but I kinda doubt anyone will have an objection.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the threaded mode links your reply to an earlier post? Wouldn't that make it difficult to keep up with new posts in a thread you're following since you wouldn't be inclined to go back to earlier pages of posts you've already read? Seems like using the quote option is a much better option when replying to a single post.

Yes...Maybe this picture will help.

In this view, there is both a timeline, but note you also see who replied to what post.

There isn't a "quote" reply option in the threaded mode, because this is how you see who is replying to what.

If we disabled that quick reply click, the threaded view option would essentially become useless because there would be no possible means of addressing one specific post within a thread.
(most people use the quote feature to accomplish that in linear mode).

I switched to the threaded mode to poke around and what a PITA it is to read a thread.

Don't change it for me but why would anyone choose having to click on every reply instead of just scrolling and reading?
