Probably.
I barely remember his funeral. Paternal, 1870-1963, I wasn't quite 13 yet when he died, he lived in PA so never knew him real well. He was a cabinetmaker, had only hand tools. I have some stuff here that he made, including a solid oak swivel desk chair. He emigrated from Sweden in 1887, had salt pork or bacon and eggs for breakfast all the time. Got sick his last month or two, lung infection or something, and that was it. That's him below. My grandmothers -- both of them, and my maternal grandfather -- all died before I was born. |

At the age of 93, he probably didn't care what the outcome would be.

I'd love to do some day drinking with Yadkin and Bruze. That would be a blast!
Bruze, great looking grandparents! Grandpa was short-ish, but look at those hands! No girly-man there! |

He built a house in town at some point, and had his three sons (my dad being the youngest) help him. I never really knew how my dad knew everything about building a house (old school) from laying block, framing a house with rough-cut lumber, doing lath and plaster, flooring, cedar siding and roof shingles until a couple of years ago when one of my cousins told me the story. My grandpa finished the inside with cherry moldings and trim, all cut from the farm and the moldings were all done with hand molding planes. I was in it when I was around 7 and just barely remember it. Him and his 15 year-old sister left their home in Sweden in 1887 and headed here on the ship below. Their mother had packed food for them, including bread, which at some point became moldy and that's all they had to eat. This was their ship, the "Romeo". I have a digital copy of their tickets. His sister that came with him married this Danish blacksmith: This is the blacksmith shop. The third man from the right with the white shirt is my grandpa; the boy next to him was (likely) my oldest uncle, DOB 1897. I don't know which one was the actual blacksmith. My dad told me numerous stories about him and other boys hanging around there when they were young. |
