I have been to France 2 times during the 90's as a deployed U.S. Airman. They are forgetful, and thankless of what we did generations earlier. They can all go collectively and piss up a Nazi rope as for as I'm concerned. The way they acted, it was if it NEVER happened, so snooty noses were the norm. They are worthless in times of war, and snooty in times of peace, no matter how many times their sorry asses have been bailed out. Fcuk'em.

I was in France almost 20 years ago, and no, I don't speak French. I didn't experience any of the negative "haughtiness" that many Americans say they experience. The closest I came is when my then wife and I were in a small restaurant late at night. We ordered coffee, and sat down at a small table. The waiter told us the tables were just for folks ordering food. We apologized and got up immediately, for we had apparently committed a cultural faux pas. Maybe a minute later, the same guy came over and told us to sit down at the same table, and even sent over a pastry for us, on the house. I'm guessing that because we were respectful of their customs, they were respectful of us.

Me and my wife have been to several other countries and have found that if you know their customs and respect them you will get respect in return.

Exactly. Most often rudeness starts when you presume that they speak English. The do, of course, but they consider it rude to act like you expect them to speak in English.
