You chase them long enough, you're going to end up in the wrong spot eventually. It isn't like they're 100% predictable.

January. It killed two people, injured a few. It was sometime around the noon hour. People were working in that factory. I just shot the photo of the one house. Hundreds more like it in the neighborhood. Debris in trees and everywhere. It was all south of me about 5-10 miles. It would have been far worse later in the day with people at home. The majority were at work and school. It was 10mph below classification for EF5.

This is why I would want to be in the TIV2 or the DominatorIII. Better yet, not be anywhere near tornadoes.

"spotting" and intentionally driving closer after the initial spotting... are two different things.

but the level of danger is amplified by those wanting to take it further than what spotting requires. They can keep their distance - while viewing & determining the tornados ground path/direction. If they choose to get closer - it's an unnecessary risk.

I wonder how close those tornado tours get.

The difference is that the pros are chasing tornadoes and know what they are doing. Bettes is chasing stories and is not a pro at storm chasing.

PS: The Weather Channel used to be decent. Ever since NBC bought them they suck.

I started DVR'ing a new show of theirs: "Forecasting the End". It was to be a series showing what it might be like if there were extreme weather... or a naturally occuring phenomenon.

for example: what if the huge volcano under Yellowstone were to erupt... interesting thought.

But after watching the very first eposide - they mentioned both

*global warming
and
*nuclear winter

I removed the show from my DVR list.

Remember when the Weather Channel showed forecasts 24x7?

Remember when MTV showed music videos 24x7?

It looked like they were trying to get in front(south) of the tornado and ended up driving right into it. Why didn't they just stop their vehicle? It looked like they may have been going 70 mph when they were blown off the wet road. Simply driving off the road at that speed I would suspect would cause the same result.

Where are the pictures of the cars that they passed? Did all of them make it out ok simply because they may have actually stopped before driving into the tornado? This entire event looks like they could have avoided if they simply didn't try to "beat the tornado".

What's the purpose of beating the tornado anyway. Does the video suck if you are stuck on the north side of one?

They were in the path of it, and were trying to get around it when it changed course. Tornadoes are highly unpredictable.

I don't think his goal is to become 'famous'. Just like any reporter, it's his job. Just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and got a little closer than anticipated.

From the video I see, they drove into the path of it. Perhaps the tornado is larger than what I see, but going 70 mph or even 60 mph is actually helping the tornado to get you airborne if it's on your upcoming right side.

Similar to a reporter in a war zone.

Some make it back home, others dont.
