Cutting the Cord (Again)

I was perfectly happy with OTA TV along with ROKU, but a few years ago my wife got some kind of "deal" for DirecTV so we signed up again. $25.00 per month gave us a bazillion channels we never watched. But I suppose it was nice to have it on occasion. I guess. Shit, $25.00 a month isn't a big deal.

Got the bill yesterday, evidently the promotion is over $70.00 now.

Nope. Not having it.

Called this morning and talked with the "Customer Retention" person. She convinced me to keep the service and call back in Two Weeks to see if a new promotion comes along. So, reluctantly, I agreed.

Then about 10 minutes later, I had a moment of clarity and said **** this.

Called back and cancelled. Told the "Customer Retention" expert that there was no compromise. Cancel the Service.

Spent about 10 minutes removing the Dish from the Roof just now. Into the garbage can it goes. Good thing is there is some remaining coaxial infrastructure I can utilize for a decent roof mount OTA antenna, so I'll have a slick little setup after I buy another antenna.

$25.00 extra in my pocket a month, can't complain.

Bought a Roof Antenna at Wal-Mart. $40.00.

Installed it, received 141 Channels Free.

Now, I know that a large percentage of those Channels are nonsense. But a large percentage of DirecTV channels are nonsense. So it kind of evens out.

Shit, we usually just watch MeTV anyway.

Anyway, gotta run. Winchester 73 is on.

An OTA antenna where I live will get zero channels. Surrounded by mountains and network TV channels are over 100 miles away.

Since my parents live with me, I can't cut the cord. Trying to get them to operate a ROKU, Firestick, or a smart TV is just not going to happen. What I am going to do though, is cut down to their two TVs and the rest in the house are going to be ROKU only. With LOCALCAST, I can still see local TV.

IF I EVER watch TV, it's FOX NEWS.......and the local news off one of the commie networks, along with their typical 630 indoctrination class.....

then back to the REAL news/commentary.....

so maybe 3 hours/day.....unless something exciting is going on, like surfing the .net.......

Haven't had cable/satellite for 10 years now, we get 20 plus OTA channels of which I watch a few(westerns channel, Charge tv, Comet, Quest and PBS channels). We use a couple streaming services(share with a friend) and it's plenty of stuff to watch.
