Default Any one ever use their Traeger / Smoker to make pizza

Wifey decided going out to dine on Valentines will be a PITA, long lines and overpriced average food.

So, we will be staying in with the doggies, AND will attempt homemade pizza on the Traeger smoker.

First time on smoker, but not first making pizzas.
I know what I like, thinner crust with sundried tomatoes, red onions, garlic sauces, both cheddar and provolone, maybe some white chicken meat.

How do you do yours, cook time and minutes, what are the best ingredients.
Any AND all assistance is appreciated!!

Like this? Or are you just talking about using the grill by itself.

We have a Pit Boss (same thing as Traeger, different name) and I've never thought about cooking pizza on it. It certainly gets hot enough, but I can't imagine a smoky flavored pizza would be very appetizing.

Some have a grill function that burns pretty clean. I don't do pizza because I have an Ooni for that.

When I use the grill or flattop on the Yoder, I burn a mix of charcoal pellets and wood. Once it gets going, it's almost smokeless.

Pellet grills don’t produce appreciable smoke at higher temperatures. Waste of fuel if your oven can reach high enough temps.

I have a cast iron griddle that fits inside my gas grill. It would probably bake a pizza without burning. I might also use a pizza pan on top of the griddle.

I must not understand smokers if you're able to cook a pizza in one. If you're letting pizza dough sit at a low temp for a long time, you're just rising the dough with shit on top of it.

Pellet smokers like Traeger can be set to low temp to smoke for hours, or at very high temps.

Yep. My Camp Chef pellet smoker will get to about 450°.

That's pretty cool for pizza.

Some smokers allow you to remove the flame guards and you basically get a blowtorch out of the firebox. They then make griddles, grills and even pizza ovens that sit over the blowtorch to change the smoker into a grill. 750 degrees is normal.

Yep. We use a pizza stone that we heat up as we heat up the Traeger. Then put the crust on it for a few to get it partially cooked, bring it inside, add whatever is going on top (sauces, cheese, meats, veggies, whatever), then set it at 425 for about 7-10 minutes.

We set the initial temp high enough so as to not use the smoking but just as a heat deflecting oven/grill.

Buddy has a Green Mountain Grill like mine, but he bought the pizza attachment.
Takes about 4-5 minutes a pizza, and it is excellent.

He made pizzas for the Super Bowl last weekend.
