Yes we have a whole house generator system and a nice big tank of propane!

Your quote "Over the course of that time, the impact on the car's battery was a 1% hit" seems real low Fridges and freezers can draw a lot of power and then there is the big start up hit that uses a much higher short time use of power.

EVs definitely not ready for prime time at least in my part of the country!
It really was only a 1% hit on the battery.

I'm one of those EV owners that isn't afraid to say EV's are not THE solution, just an option. They're not for everybody or meet every need. They don't meet my towing and hauling needs. In 10-15 years? Who knows. Maybe. Maybe not.

For those in cold climates, they're not ready yet. In Norway, where about 70% of new vehicle registrations are electric, they're finding a way to make it work, but I have no idea about their driving habits (long or short distance, etc).

I doubt I'll ever go fully electric for my vehicles. Having options is nice. And being able to drive the EV around town for a couple of weeks between charges at home is really nice and our gas expenses are far lower than they used to be. For us, the combination of EV plus ICE vehicles has worked well and struck a good balance. Again, for us.

YMMV.

I don't see EV's as an option for those living in Apartments/condos within the next 20 to 30 years. Imagine how many level 2 chargers would need that people in apartments can charge at night. Unless fast chargers can charge as fast or close to the speed of gas stations, there is no solution for those who can't charge at home. As for towing, battery technology is evolving and Storedot already has very long range, very fast charging solid state batteries that will be used in Polestar vehicles in 2 - 3 years. Once you can produce a 200 kwh battery that has the weight and size of a current 100 kwh battery, all the range issues when towing will go away. The key is to increase energy density of the batteries.

There surely are lots of them at the drag strip. There usually are several Turbo S cars as well as McLarens. You also get to see Lambos frequently.. Can't recall seeing many Ferraris but Lambos, Turbo S and McLarens are common on Test&Tune nights at the track I go to. C8's also got launch control.. Tons of Vettes at the drag strip.

Must be a Florida thing (which is not surprising).

Here, those that don't sit unused in garages go to Mid Ohio and do what they're actually designed to do.

The area where the drag strip is situated is very close to a very high end community called Lakewood Ranch. Tons of $$$$$ cars in that area..
Just going to the supermarket there, you'll probably see 10 - 15 6 figure cars in the parking lot. Sarasota is also very close and very high end..

Won't hear an argument from me about folks in apartments. EV's just are NOT for everybody yet. Maybe other options will develop. Maybe not.

I agree that towing range has the room to REALLY improve, but I think it'll be longer than 2-3 years. But looking forward to see what comes of it all.

But I'm keeping my ICE truck for the foreseeable future!

I have an order for the Cybertruck but my turn won't come until maybe 2026 or 2027.. Maybe, by that time, Tesla will have a bigger battery for the truck.

He made it 90 miles, with 1% charge left, although in order to not run out of electricity, he had to slow down and draft a slow moving semi for the last 10 miles of the trip. He apparently had some legitimate range anxiety issues.

This is discrimination. Just because someone lives in an apartment or condo doesn't mean they don't deserve or want to run 9 second quarter miles on a regular basis. I mean, who doesn't? Tesla Plaids for the masses, I say. And a free 'living wage' for existing. And, free sex changes for illegals while we're at it.

Having a useful range of 75 miles is perfect. Any driving legs longer than that are unsafe

No one has EVER wanted to, or likely ever needed to unhook their trailer just to refuel their truck. What a HUMONGOUS pita that would be. What a ****ing joke. Thank god ICE trucks will be available the rest of my driving days…..

Lakewood Ranch is not a Pickup Truck area..

Lots of Porsches, Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches, Teslas (mostly S and X), BMW, Benz and McLarens.
I always love to go there as I always see cool cars.

Come drive around our little island. You’ll think Lakewood Ranch is a slum.

I used to live in Miami Beach in a beachfront condo. I'd see an insane amount of high end cars there. All I needed to do would be to go to the balcony of my condo and look down on A1A.
We also had Ferraris and Lambos in the condo garage. My 3 Vettes I had at the time looked cheap compared to some of the other cars in the garage.

I've had to pass by a few stations to get to one I could fit into with a trailer before, so I understand the problem. The nice thing, though, is when you pull in, you can fuel both the truck, and the equipment on the trailer, from two pumps at the same time.
