Tens of thousands of people attending the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert are being told to conserve food, water and fuel as they shelter in place in the Black Rock Desert after a heavy rainstorm pummeled the area, festival organizers said.

The gate and airport into Black Rock City, a remote area in northwest Nevada, remain closed and no driving is allowed into or out of the city except for emergency vehicles, the organizers said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“Do not travel to Black Rock City! Access to the city is closed for the remainder of the event, and you will be turned around,” one statement read.

The city is expecting more showers and thunderstorms on Sunday before 5 p.m. local time, organizers said in a weather forecast update.

Hell, it rained a little here in Fresno in the past hour. Had to bring the laundry in. 78 degrees and raining. Crazy.

Just checked.....74,000 people there, temps in the 60's, 1/2 inch of rain last night, whole place closed to vehicles except emergency.....hell, the whole EVENT centers around 'Art Cars' and vehicles....it's so huge you have to have a scooter or car or quad or bike to get around. And none are allowed. 74,000 hippies told to hunker in their tents and campers and 'wait for the playa to dry out'. If I paid $2000 for that, I would be pissed.

I went to three Bills' games in the late '90s - early 2000s with the GF and other friends. Those are the only sporting events I've ever been to.

It was okay, but I would never do it again. It was like getting up early and going to a job -- something I haven't done since 1982.

My last event was the Oakland A's losing to the Kansas City Royals, at Candlestick Park, Bat Day, 1972. Vida Blue and Reggie Jackson in the line-up for the A's, who lost.

Haven't been to a sporting event since.
