HUGE California Traffic Tickets Fines Effective 01/06/2011
I just got this from a retired LAPD Detective. Something to think about when you are in your Vette.
Please be extremely careful in your driving and car registration & insurance matters. State of California is broke and they are trying hard to squeeze all of us hard to collect money. Effective immediately, if you do not stop at the red light, be ready to pay $436 in fines or if you pass a school bus with flashing red signals, you will be charged $616. The state of California is going for blood, so be extra careful in driving, You cannot afford messing with them. I have been hearing that Highway Patrols are under pressure to issue a lot more tickets than last year with at least 30% increase in fines over 2009, so beware of radar guns, highway and traffic cameras installed everywhere and the tougher enforcement of parking rules. Just for your info, the next time you park in the handicapped zone, even for a minute, you will be looking at almost $ 1000 in parking tickets , so it'd better be worth it. California needs money, so pay close attention to the rules of the road! Traffic Ticket Fines (Effective 01/06/2011) VC 12814.6 $214 Failure to obey license provisions. VC 14600(A) $214 Failure to notify DMV of address change within 10 days Note: The fine may be reduced with valid proof of correction. VC 16028(A) $796 Failure to provide evidence of financial responsibility (insurance) Note: This fine may be reduced with proof of insurance on or after the violation date. VC 21453(A) $436 Failure to stop at a red signal. VC 22349 $214 Unsafe speed, 1 to 15 miles over the limit. VC 22350 $328 Unsafe speed, 16 to 25 miles over the limit. VC 22450 $214 Failure to stop at a stop sign. VC 22454(A) $616 Passing a school bus with flashing red signals. VC 23123(A) $148 Driving while using a wireless phone not hands free, first offense . I know someone who got this and it ending up being $274 VC 23123(B) $256 Driving while using a wireless phone not hands free, each subsequent offense. VC 23123.5 $148 Driving while using a wireless device to send, read or write text. VC 23124 $148 Minor driving while using a wireless phone. VC 22500 $976 Parking in a bus loading area. VC 22507(A) $976 Violation of disabled parking provisions, first offense. VC 22507(B) $1876 Violation of disabled parking provisions, second offense. VC 26708 $178 Unlawful material on vehicle windows. VC 27150 $178 Adequate muffler required. VC 27315 $148 Mandatory use of seat belts. VC 27360 $436 Mandatory use of passenger child restraints. Note: This fine may be reduced by completing a court authorized child seat diversion program. VC 27400 $178 Headsets or Earplugs covering both ears. VC 27803 $178 Violation of motorcycle safety helmet requirements. VC 34506 $616 Commercial Driver - Log book violation. VC 4000 $256 No evidence of current registration. Note: The fine may be reduced with valid proof of correction. VC 4159 $178 Notify DMV of change of address within 10 days. Note: The fine may be reduced with valid proof of correction. VC 5200 $178 Proper display of license plates. Note: The fine may be reduced with valid proof of correction. VC 9400 $178 Commercial weight fees due. Note: The fine may be reduced with valid proof of correction. Look out for the money grabbers in Sacramento but don't blame the cops. They don't set the fines or collect them! |

The cops don't set the fines, maybe they could refuse to write them. that is a huge increase in fines. I personally have not had a ticket in six or eight years, but have been stopped. I don't think the police want to be asses and screw people unfairly, well most anyways.

I heard parking tickets in the city of SD are now over 2 bills (the city is broke), but as soon as you enter the county or other cities that are in the black, enforcement is saner. CHP likes I-15, but otherwise I'm not sweating it too much.
Cops in the cities near me are either too busy with street crime issues or don't personally like to issue ticky-tack $ citations. It seems that most cops have been around long enough to have not cared for the revenuing of the 80 and 90's and they seem to remember it. My C4 does have some pretty heavy tint on it though (from the previous owner)... |

OK, I guess this is kind of related....but another shining example of California stupidity and how desperate they are for tax revenue:
I'm looking a low mile Fiero GT at a dealership in southern California. I figured if I bought the car, I'd fly into Ontario and drive it back home like I did with the last Fiero I bought in Los Angeles. Not this time..... It seems that if I drive away in the car, I have to pay California sales tax on the car even if it will be registered (and taxed again) in Texas. If Texas has a reciprocal agreemeent with CA, I can't find it... and Texas has a lower tax rate, so even if they do have an agreement, I'd still be paying 2% more in sales tax. If I was a Nevada or AZ resident, those states would waive sales tax. Now if I'm an out of state buyer, and will have to pay sales tax at home, why in God's name is the state of CA taxing me? I've bought cars in NM, CO, and AZ and they've never charged me tax. The loophole is, if I have the car shipped on a common carrier instead of picking it up....you guessed it....no sales tax. Does this make any sense whatsoever? When my mother lived in NM, she bought an Explorer in El Paso, and the Ford dealer just handed her the title and temp tags.....no Texas sales tax. Maybe I'm missing something, but you'd think California would ENCOURAGE out of state money coming into their businesses. |

Ratdude.....I sold the V8 Fiero, I still have my 86 GT. I decided to sell them both and buy one nice, low mile "survivor" Fiero. The other consideration was I wanted an auto this time. A 5 speed is a blast to drive....until you hit heavy stop and go traffic, which is getting worse every day.
I've got a guy that's interested in my GT also, but I told him I won't turn loose of it until its replacement is sitting in the driveway. The one I'm looking to buy is a 21K mile car and is virtually flawless. California regulations are just making it difficult..... |

It's not really a big deal....The cost of shipping it to El Paso is roughly the same as air fare, hotel, food and gas to get it home.....I just wanted the fun of driving it back, and figured I could get together with the SoCal guys for lunch while I was there.
It's a nice car....I'll negotiate with them a bit. |

My best friend lives in Chino Valley, Arizona and builds shotguns. He left Goleta because of the stupid gun regulations here.
I went over there to visit him and help him in his shop. He was trying to trade in his truck while I was there, and the dealer told him there was a lean on the truck. He owned it outright, so he had no idea on what was going on. We went to Arizona DMV and asked them what was going. They told him that California DMV had put a lien on his truck because he had not paid the registration on it for the last two years. The fact that it was registered in Arizona the whole time did not seem to matter. The Arizona registrar said California did this all the time. They borrow money on the expected registration money. When they do not receive it, they place a lien. Thankfully, Arizona helped him straighten it out. |
