Default Big Brother Nanny State Bullsheet

So the MGB was due for an inspection sticker at the end of October, but for a bunch of reasons I wasn't able to take the car in to get it done. No big deal, I'll just get one in the spring when I put it back on the road.

Now the Mass RMV sends out an email and requires an online form to be filled out for the privilege.

Of course, if you're an illegal alien here in this God-forsaken shithole state, you get a driver's license and EBT card, no questions axed.

Quote:
Dear Mr. Vandelay,

Vin: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX; Plate: FJB

RMV records indicate your annual Massachusetts inspection sticker is expired and your vehicle needs to be inspected. Please do not ignore this email and act accordingly by referring to the expiration date on the existing Massachusetts sticker on your vehicle’s front windshield. The sticker expires on the last day of the month in the year indicated on the face of the sticker. Failure to act may result in law enforcement to issue a citation.

The annual Massachusetts Vehicle Check requires all vehicles registered in Massachusetts pass a yearly vehicle inspection – this inspection is essential to the safety of the Commonwealth’s environment and roadways.

If your vehicle is currently in storage, complete the*Off-the-Road Inspection Transaction*by selecting the link on the*RMV Online Service Center.

If your vehicle is currently out of state, complete the*Out-of-State Inspection Transaction*by selecting the link on the*RMV Online Service Center.

There are over 1,800 licensed inspection stations in Massachusetts where customers can bring their vehicle in to safely update their inspection sticker. Visit the*Inspection Station Locator*to find a location near you.

Thank you in advance for your attention and commitment to the safety of the Commonwealth’s environment and roadways. If your vehicle has recently been inspected and has a valid, current sticker on your windshield, please disregard this email.

Sincerely,
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles

Same thing kinda thing here, put the corvettes on insurance hold for the winter two years ago. The state of Utah revoked my registrations on them and I was forced to have them registered like it was their first time complete with VIN checks from the local police folks and paid extra for the priveledge.

I'll need to renew the plates in March. I wonder if they'll make me get a sticker first.

One of the very few good things about NJ is that for cars too old to have OBD II, no inspection is required at all.

It's not much, but can you let me cling to that one little shred of reasonableness from my State government? Please?

When you go to register a vehicle with expired registration, the clerks just ask you if you got a ticket for that. If no, you register as normal, and if you're more than about 3 months late, they start you with the new month expiration. If you're one or two months expired, you pay full price for a year, but they give you a sticker for the same month the previous one expired.

I'm not sure what happens if you answer yes, you did get a ticket for expired registration.

No. NJ sucks with respect to motor vehicles. A while back, they changed from the "Division of Motor Vehicles" to the "Motor Vehicle Commission". BFD; same old shit.

I will admit that the whole inspection thing has gotten easier. I haven't had to bring a car to an inspection station for many years now, and have no idea what they currently check. Emissions, I guess?

I'm old enough to remember when those fat assholes in their blue wool uniforms would fail you if your wiper blades looked old. (It happened to me!)

I had a 1959 MGA, with "side curtains" made of plexiglas, which I had replaced. Dumbo at the inspection station failed me because the plastic didn't have a window glass certification stamp in them. I went & borrowed a pair of OEM side curtains from my local dealer, who I kept in business with my frequent MGA parts purchases, & went back to the inspection station. The inspector gave me a hard time, as the side curtains clearly looked old/used, but he had no choice but to pass me.

In CA, I still have to smog check my 40 year old pickup truck every two years. No safety inspections, though. No money for the state to collect there.

It's excellent, as is the stuff in the Gulf. The whole East Coast kicks ass on the West Coast when it comes to seafood.

The calico bass are really, really tasty down in Baja, though!

Stone crabs are manna from heaven.

Mahi mahi is the greatest value, and most versatile.

FL lobster tails are easy to eat, consistent in taste and texture, and can be caught by novices.
