Absolutely. My DeWalt has had issues with some of the harder and heavier exotics. It had a difficult time with Brazilian cherry, ziricote, wenge, kingwood, and bubinga to name just a few. Ziricote is so hard, I melted a tire right off my bandsaw trying to resaw it. Last time I planed it, the built-in breaker on the planer popped several times because it was overloaded. I have to think that staggered carbide cutterheads would have an easier time with such difficult exotics. |

You aren't missing much. They're hard on all your cutting tools, most of them are so toxic the dust has sent me to the doctors for steroids more than once, they're ungodly expensive, and what they will do to your best chisels has to be seen to be believed. |

I was damn good in 8th grade woodshop class, until I got booted for filing all the trash cans with tobacco juice, got sent to Home Ec, picked up a few babes there.

I've had the DW735 for many years; got it on a good deal from Rockler with the stand, infeed/outfeed table extensions, & spare blades. I haven't felt the need for a helical cutter head, but I've only used it for oak, cherry, maple, sapele, sycamore, & some occasional teak.
I'd suggest watching your local craigslist & facebook groups for some possible deals on any used woodworking equipment. |

We had 3 big wooden water tanks alongside the station when I was in the Coast Guard. One Summer they disassembled those and had me drive the boards up to Norfolk where there was a big planer that I ran them through. Took longer to drive there than to plane the boards. Don't remember how many trips I made but it was a lot.
No idea how I found my way there and back, just a born navigator I guess |
