My coworkers took these while we were outside. Thru their eclipse glasses. I wasn't coordinated enough.

Next US (total solar) eclipse is 2024. My sister is in the path of totality near Dallas.

I'm there. Who's with me? VetteBarn eclipse party?

I'll most likely head about 1 hour south of Joplin to see it in 2024. Saw this one today near Jefferson City Missouri, was really cool. Really cooled down as it neared totality, which lasted a bit under 2 minutes. Got very dark. Traffic was a friggin' nightmare coming back though. Usual 3 hour trip took 6 hours.

I've got family in San Antonio, so that's where I'll be.

Sweet.

We'll have to get a head count when the time comes...everyone meet up. Lots of folks out in Texas. Even if not for the eclipse...at least for dinner or something.

You need to learn how to travel lighter, though. Reading over all your preparation for this trip exhausts me. Reminds me of this...

He was taking a lady friend. We can let it slide and act like he was just making sure she was happy.

But by the end I was like, "What. The. Fuuuuuuuuuuck!!! Just toss an effing tent in the car and call it a day, mofo!"

We still love you, Clark.

One of my coworkers brought in approved glasses. He passed around his glasses to anyone that wanted to peep the eclipse. So we all got to see it when we took a brake from washing the plane. Very cool!

Gotta say...85% eclipse isn't as nearly as dark as I thought it would be. The crescent shaped shadows were kinda cool.

The owner brought in 6 pairs of eclipse glasses yesterday so everyone at work could see it. Pretty cool.

My dad's wife's super hippy dippy liberal sister from Portland was at their house when we showed up. Haven't seen her for about 20 years, we got along famously last time I saw her (we didn't...)

Anyway I felt like triggering her just a little. Why not? She was going on about how one of her scientist friends was studying the effect of the eclipse on a variety of grass. Regular grass. And how excited her friend was about it. I said "Well, that's the difference between scientists and engineers. You see, a scientist will study something (on someone's dime) that is completely meaningless and is guaranteed not to matter a single whit in any material way, and the engineer always asks Is this useful? Is this a worthwhile endeavor that has a chance of actually working or improving something?"

She said "Oh, so I suppose you are against government-funded art too? Some things are worth doing just for the beauty or the knowledge gained." I said "Yeah, I don't think the government should fund art. If an artist creates something that has an appeal, they'll be able to sell it or get paid to display it. All government funded art does is provide shitty art. Also there is nothing to be gained by looking for minute changes to grass that only happen a couple minutes every decade or three. It's a perfect example of do-nothing idiocy that is the hallmark of how the liberal mind works. And look, the eclipse is starting (cracks a beer...)"

Well on a more positive note of yesterdays event my son has renewed interest in the moon and stars.Years ago we got him a Newtonian telescope that was in the basement collecting dust.
He brought it out spent a few hours online relearning how to use it properly and we took it out to the ballpark last night to scope out a few stars and when the moon is back out we will return.

on Triple Black's pics!
We were staying in Kansas City and had planned to travel to a spot deeper in the totality but the weather reports were terrible in every direction. Although KC only had a 1 minute and 13 seconds of totality we didn't expect to get to see it regardless so we just stayed put.

Monday morning was clear until about 8:30 or 9 when thunderstorms blew through. We tried to trade our eclipse glasses for umbrellas but no takers so we decided to get a good meal and step outside in time to see it get dark; well darker... already pretty dark from the thunderstorms.

Walked outside a little after noon and sky had gone almost completely clear so I grabbed my gear and rushed to get set up. Rushed a little too much and didn't get focus refined adequately so the shots were a little soft.

I was able to shoot the last few minutes of the partial eclipse and all of the totality, but a few wispy clouds got in the way. So far this is the best shot. Just as totality ended, the heavy clouds came back so no more pics or even views.

Have to say watching the sun go completely dark and seeing a 360 degree sunset was unforgettable. Hoping for clear skies on 4/8/2024.
