It's amazing what you can handle when you're not given a choice. Good Luck......Mark

Bleeding excessively from chest tube. Just had X-ray. Waiting to see if she has to undergo another surgery. Liquid is almost all blood.

Did she have the entire right lung removed or just a lobe?

I'm not a prayerful person, but wishing all the best for you & Mrs. Snik. I had part of a lung removed about 30 years ago, and while the recovery was uncomfortable, it went quickly & well.

Again, good thoughts for both of you.

Sorry for late update. I’ve been at the hospital since 9am and just got home.

They said they think blood and fluid pooled during the night so when she sat up it all dumped down the tube at once. X-ray is OK and no surgical intervention today.

She’s in pretty rough shape. I’m not sure what I expected. I don’t remember the situation when I had my emergency bowel resection but I was hospitalized for seven days and near death so it must have been just as rough. I was blitzed on hydromorphone the whole time so I wasn’t much aware.

It’s really hard to see her in this shape. She is normally strong and healthy.

She should be coming home tomorrow. She’ll need a walker apparently. I imagine she’ll be bed bound for a bit. I have to be at the cancer center all day Friday so I’m concerned about that. I think my son can handle it.

I’m so tired.

I have a major distrust of hospitals. I keep thinking about my friend Amy who had heart surgery and ended up on life support for 91 days until she passed. This woman was fit, successful and just 52 years old. She always turned heads when she entered a room. She was the strongest person I ever met. Mentally, physically, willfully.

But even she could not survive the hospital. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years.

I think its smart not to trust hospitals, or doctors...after all thats happened in my family over the past 20 years, i will never ever trust any hospital. After C19 ill never trust any doctor either...

My Aunt, great aunt, great uncle, mother, grandmother...all went into hospitals with relatively straightforward problems that the medical professionals manages to bumfumble into emergencies.

It sounds like your wife is on the road to recovery. My advice, the best advice I can give..if you're ever in a situation where you hsve the head Trauma surgeon, head of surgery, head of ER, and head of infectious disease standing in the corner of your room spitballing the next step while arguing who goes first...dont ever be afraid to ask for a different hospital.

Had my much beloved 74 year old sis-in-law in Oklahoma go in for a lung biopsy in June of 2022 and they wound up removing 1/2 of one lung (never smoked). We drove straight across country from Florida to be with her.

Just last month she hosted a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner for two dozen friends and relatives and cooked her heart out -hale and hearty.

Wish the same for your wife !
