First this is a new virus. That means our bodies have not seen this virus before and we are unlikely to have any antibodies. This virus seems to be spreading through the human population much faster than flu, and part of that has to do with the fact that all of us are susceptible. With the flu, most of us are carrying some level of antibody protection from a previous year’s exposure or from a vaccine. Additionally, the case fatality rate is estimated to be 10 times higher for COVID-19 that the flu. Lastly, this virus is new to medical personnel, too. They are learning how best to both take care of patients and possibly treat it.

Harris County, Fort Bend County, Galveston (city) all have mask policies now due to a spike.

Here in Brazoria County, we're still holding the nonsense at bay. Thinking of building a wall, though.
Edit 6/26: I spoke too soon. I got a phone call from the city saying they wanted to start the mask bullshit on Sunday, I think.

We still need a wall to keep Houstonians out of our city though. Friggen' violent savages.

Had it back in December....went to urgent care on Christmas day....miss diagnosed....no medication given. I spent about a month getting over the fever and chills...and to this day still have a little cough ...i never went to the doctor prior to this for flu symptoms, but i knew at the time this was kicking my ass. Now i have not tested positive for it but i believe i had it early before all the panic

Don't be angry, look at it this way - if you want to rob a bank, you'll already be dressed for it.

Since masks are “required” here, I often ask the workers “remember when it was illegal to walk into this establishment wearing a gun and a mask?”

My problem with this virus versus the flu or other viruses is that it kind of paralyzes the lungs. That scares the hell out of me. That would be a miserable feeling.

I had a pulmonary embolism last year and Liz had a collapsed lung a few years back. They both were no walk in the park.
I can't take the chance of contracting C-19 because of that, not to mention taking high BP meds, so other than occasional store and beach trips, we are still quarantining.
We mask when there is any chance of human contact.
Just following CDC guidelines.
If you want to play Russian roulette with your lungs, that's your business, but we aren't.

We are quarantining also. I expect to do that for several more months, if we are lucky. Fortunately, It does not bother me so much. Of course I do go shopping as needed. My wife is a cancer survivor having had extensive chemo and radiation. I am sure her immune system is compromised. Taking no chances.

look, I'm as anti-hype on this COVID thing as anyone.

But...
there is no inoculation for it yet, and no medicinal treatment for it yet. So we do need to be a little more cautious.

NOWHERE NEAR THE MEDIA HYPE has made it out to be... but still be careful and cautious during this. Once a vaccination is made, it will no longer be a big deal.

Several years ago did 3 yrs of immunosuppressive chemotherapy treatments (like the kind Snik does) for a rare autoimmune condition, and am considered high-risk due to my compromised immune system. I cannot do vaccines, and will need to rely on herd immunity unfortunately.

Outside of grocery shopping, errands, doc appts, and occasional drives in my car, I’ve been staying put. I’m taking all the precautions (mask, gloves, hand-washing, sanitizer, Lysol, etc), but I’m not letting fear rule my life, either (if that makes any sense).

It's NOT just the flu.

Quote:
Besides the respiratory issues that leave patients gasping for breath, the virus that causes COVID-19 attacks many organ systems, in some cases causing catastrophic damage.

“We thought this was only a respiratory virus. Turns out, it goes after the pancreas. It goes after the heart. It goes after the liver, the brain, the kidney and other organs. We didn’t appreciate that in the beginning,” said Dr. Eric Topol, a cardiologist and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla, California.

In addition to respiratory distress, patients with COVID-19 can experience blood clotting disorders that can lead to strokes, and extreme inflammation that attacks multiple organ systems. The virus can also cause neurological complications that range from headache, dizziness and loss of taste or smell to seizures and confusion.

Yeah, the precautions are a damn nuisance, but I'm being careful because I don't want that shit in my house.
