They can double, triple or a billion times their take by selling that information to anyone who asks. Blue Cross Blue Shield asks for the profile of their customers for "research use only"? SOLD.

So my wife got her results back yesterday and I was somewhat surprised. Her DNA makeup is as follows:

99.2% Southeast Asian
.2% Broadly East Asian
.3% Broadly East Asian & Native American
.2% Broadly Northwestern European
.1% Broadly European

I thought for sure there would be more Spanish DNA in her genes.

Wondering what kind of mutt I'm going to be once my results are in...

I thought for sure there would be a chunk of Spanish DNA in her results being as the Spaniards conquered the Philippines about 400 years ago. Almost everyone on both sides of her family have Spanish surnames? I'm wondering if the indigenous people of the PI were forced to change their family names back then? My FIL's surname is Maniaul and my MIL's is Sebastian. Neither of those family names sounds very "Pacific Islander" to me.

It found my first and second cousins that we didn't know did it as a relative match.

Well I haven't found any 1st or 2nd cousins, but 23andme says there are 1052 3rd to 4th cousins registered and way too many 5th to distant cousins to even list. However I've yet to agree to release my info for the DNA Family option on their website.

Since I just received my results last night...

I'm 98.8% European (No surprise there)

37% French & German from Netherlands
35% British & Irish from the UK
10.9% Scandinavian from Norway
.8% Iberian
13.6% Broadly Northwestern European
1.6% Broadly Southern European
.9% Broadly European
.2% Unassigned.

So looks like I'm 100% Eurotrash!

I don't see how. There is no mention of any relatives on my part and it comes back with my son and two first cousins. I feel its pretty reliable.
