My wife fries some up every now and then. They have all sorts of different flavored Spam these days. The wife being Filipina enjoys the "Tocino" flavored stuff and I like the Hot & Spicy.

to my surprise... my wife had never tasted Spam. I bought a can, fried some slices in a little butter, made a sammy with mayo.

She liked it.

That looks like the slime that comes from ice machines that have never been cleaned.

Not the camping thing. Not sure how healthy it was, but ate a lot if it growing up.

I had it for the first time in Hawaii in 2006 or 2007ish. At Zippy’s, I think. Lived my entire life up to that point without having tired it.

I didn’t hate it, but I don’t go out of my way to eat it.

My father did not allow Spam in the house when I was a kid.

It was his "I had my fill of that crap in the Army" rule.

I was in my 20's the first time I tried it.
Still have some a couple of times a year.

A lot of the time for breakfast, diced mixed with scrambled eggs, dark white toast/butter, coffee.
Occasionally cut up a few slices, cut in small bites, microwave until crispy. (be sure to cover with paper plate first).

I went to Slidel, LA with a medical team in the aftermath of Katrina to photograph and assist. We set up in a shopping center parking lot just north of the lake. Heat and humidity were both in the 90s and slept on blacktop in a sleeping bag. There was a mess tent near that served fried Spam every morning. Nothing tasted better!

I haven't eaten it since. I ate a lot of potted meat in college.

My dad was the same way. Banned from our house. Also he despised scallops because he was stationed in Savannah GA and they fed them scallops pretty much every single day the way he told it. Interestingly he still wanted SOS (chipped beef on toast) even though a lot of ex-military never want to see it again.

As far as Spam goes, I can't remember ever buying it but have had it a number of times and it's OK I guess, salty as hell though.
