Body count up to 56

https://www.foxnews.com/us/californi...d-sheriff-says

Quote:
The death toll in California's Camp Fire rose to 56 on Wednesday night as authorities revealed an additional eight sets of human remains have been found in the state's deadliest wildfire.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said at a news conference that of the 56 remains found, officials have "tentatively identified" 46 of them, but are waiting on DNA confirmation.

The fires in Northern California are still considered an "emergency situation," the sheriff said. Nearly 5,500 personnel are working to battle the blaze, which has incinerated the town of Paradise.

Cal Fire officials said that the fire has now burned 138,000 acres and is 35 percent contained. It's destroyed nearly 9,000 homes and displaced 52,000 people.

The sheriff's office has 130 people listed as "unaccounted for." Honea said investigators, however, have been able to locate or determine that more than 200 others who were believed to be missing or were unaccounted for have since been located.

On Wednesday, an additional 287 searchers were brought in to aid in the search to find bodies that may have perished in the inferno, which has been burning since Nov. 8. The total number of searchers is now at 461, plus 22 cadaver dogs.

This is a developing story; please check back for updates.

Update: Looks like we'll be fine. They sent 20 trucks to Berry Creek yesterday... Not out of the woods yet (no pun intended) but we should be okay

That's good news. If you have a friend who got burnt out and is now homeless, maybe they would like to use that camper for a bit, while they get their life back together?

We're familiar with RV living while recovering from flooding and hurricanes down here on the Gulf Coast. Years back, we bought an ex FEMA trailer for one of our employees who lost his home in Hurricane Marital Conflict. He lived in it a little under a year until he finally got things sorted out, and we sold it for what we paid for it, so we did OK, too.

Evacuation orders were being lifted for all neighborhoods in the eastern side of the town of Paradise, where the fire that started Nov. 8 destroyed about 14,000 homes and killed at least 85 people, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

PARADISE, Calif. — Some residents of a Northern California town devastated by a deadly wildfire will be allowed to return home Wednesday, nearly a month after the blaze swept through the parched Sierra Nevada foothills, authorities said.

Evacuation orders were being lifted for all neighborhoods in the eastern side of the town of Paradise, where the fire that started Nov. 8 destroyed about 14,000 homes and killed at least 85 people, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

There will be limited access to residents on Wednesday, but the same neighborhoods will be opened to anyone on Thursday.

More than 50,000 people in the town and two neighboring communities were forced to flee the wind-driven flames that charred 240 square miles.

Authorities said 11 people are still unaccounted for in the deadliest U.S. wildfire in at least a century.

The communities will have very limited services for the immediate future, and authorities urged residents to bring food, water and fuel for vehicles with them.

Residents were also warned they should not move back into homes until ash and hazardous waste have been cleared away. And they were told that rain could increase risks in fire-impacted areas for flash floods and mud and debris flows.

The ferocious fire trapped people in cars and surrounded the town’s hospital — forcing the evacuation of about 60 patients. The hospital is still standing but several smaller buildings, including hospital offices, were destroyed.

Officials said that the hospital will reopen but they have not said when that will happen.
