except that it would make existing firearms illegal to possess, you couldn't sell or trade them, and gov would not give you fair value for them.

if your concern is solving crimes, there are already many tools for doing that, including catching the criminal red handed.

would you also apply all these ideas to everyone with a gun, including police? they are no different from anyone else. have good and bad days, lose their guns, leave them sitting around so that 3 year olds can get to them.....

Interesting.
I have a hard time believing that it would work...but I may have jumped too soon to thinking you were nuts.
I should have known you didn't pull the idea out of your ass.

I think people in cars should have to transport their cell phones, in the trunk, with the battery separately stored.
19 year old near me was going 20 over the limit, passing on a crest and texting and killed two toddlers.

It appears you put a lot of thought and consideration into your list.

That, is the most disturbing part of it....

It's absolutely amazing. You people, and I mean you people that advocate gun control, have no ability to understand the concept of taking responsibility for one's own actions. There has always got to be something or someone to blame.

I just loaded up a small arsenal of evil unregistered guns and I am headed out to put a lot of holes in paper and whatever other random crap I find that would make a good target in honor of this dumbass thread.

and as long as we're kicking around dumb ideas:

you have to have voted in 3 of the last 4 general elections; have to pass a civics exam (85 is passing); you have to own real estate (1 acre minimum); have paid at least $5,000 in income taxes in the last tax year; .......

i choose to live free.

This is a perfect example of why liberal policies are born of futility and destined to fail. You try to regulate things without understanding your subject matter.

Epic fail.

Okay, my .02 on this issue.

Your representatives in Washington can not stop bad guys from obtaining guns, and they know it. They can not take all the guns away that are now in the hands of good or bad people, and they know it.

What they can do, in some very liberal constituencies, is make the majority of people think they are acting in the interest of the voter's safety and well being by passing anti-gun legislation, and they know it.

I would hope Phil in the course of his work heard/saw/thought up and idea to help stop violent crime and came here with an open mind to discuss the merits of those ideas. I would also hope that he would read some replies that make sense and not just attack him and see where his ideas don't work or maybe could be changed so they would work. My own personal opinion is that they won't work to stop violent crime since criminals don't obey laws anyway.

Hmmm.........How odd,
I'm cool with handguns, but see no use in civilians having full auto weapons.

I'd love to see hand guns banned and ownership limited to rifles and shotguns. I am aware this will never happen just as some of you who support no legislation also know that will never happen.

Here are what I think are fair and reasonable efforts to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't possess them.

1) Guns should be sold with a title. When you sell the gun, you have to change the title at a police station where a back ground check can be done.

2) Bullets should come with serial numbers, and ammo must be registered when sold.

3) Gun owners should all be required to have a license and have to pass a psychological exam. Like a drivers license, they must be retested every five years.

4) Guns should come with unique rifling patterns that can be documented before the gun is sold.

5) All guns already sold would have to be registered, titled and the owners licensed.

6) All gun related crime regardless if fired come with a minimum 20 year sentence.

7) Some measure to prevent kids from getting hold of their parents guns. For example, charging the parents with manslaughter if their kid shoots someone with their gun.

Would this end all gun crime? No, but I'm sure it would start to make a dent on the tens of thousands of gun related deaths.
OK, I concede that some of those may look good in a stump speech. Except for #6, I would like you to explain how any of those would affect CRIMINALS using guns. Even #6 would eventually be beaten back for the same reason you hate mandatory sentencing guidelines for drug offenders.

What this will do is make it harder for a law abiding citizen to carry a gun, therefore some on the tipping point may choose not to do so. This has the net effect of creating a larger pool of potential defenseless victims. How's that gonna affect your stated goal?

Final tally was about 60 5.56 green tips through the evil M4, 20 .223 through the 20" barrel AR, 32 .30-06 through the Garands, ?? 7.62x39 through the evil AK-47, and a few rounds each through the pistols for good measure.

Lots of paper along with 2 old computer monitors met their end.

Sounds great, just make it legal for me to carry a rifle everywhere, all the time. I'd actually prefer that to carrying a handgun because pistols are so incredibly weak in comparison to long guns. Talk about blowing heads off doesn't need to be figurative.
