Default A day of tire kicking

Surprised by the tall seat height, weight, and just how large some of these are in person vs in pics. It's mostly the 1200cc plus twins. They have smaller single 700cc range little brothers. I can't imagine trail riding with the larger ones.

Adventure trail riding has become a huge segment in motorcycling. I follow a few yt's that have channels about it. You can literally go coast to coast in the US across old dirt roads, trails, etc...One famous woman on yt has traveled the world riding off-road. Every weird country you can think of she has been across on a bike.

I live where some of those a series have been filmed (just below Lolo Pass at the MT/ID state line).

I haven't ridden my dual sport much lately compared to the side-by-side. The neighbor down the road just picked-up the rzr pro xp turbo. It's 180hp of badassery....with a killer stereo. Prolly gonna sell-off the older rzr and purchase the newer model.

Good luck with your purchase.

I'm embarrassed to say the only bike that had styling that appealed to me was the made in India, Royal Enfield single cylinder with classic lines, and most probably the worst performance and least powerful of the bunch.

RE has a few different models. Their Himalayan adventure bike is super popular (probably the reason there was only one in the showroom already sold). I think they are around 300cc. The one in my pics is a 411 Scram. They had several of of those to choose from. There was a tall super hot chick in there buying a street version RE similar to the one pictured.

Probably like Jeeps and trucks. People like the looks, but never use them for off-roading

Check out 'itchy boots' on yt sometime. She is the chick that travels the world on adv bikes.

If you want to avoid the freeways and run back roads (my favorite kind of riding) they're great on unpaved roads. But yeah, don't run any swamps without a winch in your back pocket.

Of all the pictured bikes, The Ducs look best.
Too late in age for me though, I'll leave those adventure bikes to the youngsters.
Just keep on keeping on with the ol' geezer glide.

I've always loved the looks of the BMW. Especially the blacked out one. It is a legend in adv riding for decades with a solid following. The single cyl. versions in the 700cc range actually feel better in lighter weight, seat height, etc..The larger 1200cc would be needed for long hauls at 75mph or to keep up with traffic. The single cyl. would struggle with that. I think running around town and within a couple hundred miles of my home would be the single cyl. version.

I love the other brands. But, all the dealers are 75 miles from me for any warranty work. Honda still puts out a stone cold reliable bike and you always find a dealer or mechanic to work on one within 25 miles of anywhere it seems lol. The have some new cool bikes, too. I'm also at that age and time in my life were I keep saying to myself not to settle for less than you really want.

I've been riding since '76 on the street. Earlier in the dirt. I've had my '72 BMW R75/5 on non op for the past 3 years because cell phone users. I'm just into retirement and don't want to be crippled for life. Have been rear ended twice on bikes (both while stopped) and it's no fun.
That said, I have been looking into the Royal Enfield thing, and the 650 interceptor and the Himalayan (IIRC) Dual Sport get rave reviews. And the price point is very reasonable. 4 to 6k for a ready to go rig. With a full warranty, and quality build control and fit and finish. At my age, I would rather do as I have been doing and go 4 wheeling in my Toyotas. I can carry a full bed, all my gear, cooler, and plenty of food and water to be out for days at a time. Plus, I have solid shelter. In my 20's I used to like to rough it on bikes and go camping, not so much these days. Good luck, and have fun. And don't get taken out by a 20 year old activist chick who's texting.
