Default Back yard engineering FTW

So our dryer went out...again. I've replaced the front panel, the main circuit board, and many other parts over the years, but it finally "thinks" it's drying, but you only hear the beep and the motor doesn't start to turn the drum.

Naturally I think fuse first, but I'm like where the eff is that. Take everything apart, clean it, still no workie, so go to repairclinic.com (btw, unpaid endorsement, but this site is the BOMB when it comes to appliance repair). Return policy for a wrong guess on which part broke is easy and simple.

SO, I put in my model number into their site and the FIRST thing that pops up is the thermal fuse. Light bulb moment...literally and figuratively. I ordered it, $8 part, $26 shipping for it to be here tomorrow, but I wanted to confirm my theory that it was the fuse and not the motor.

SO...had spare tail light bulbs in the race Tundra as well as a car battery. Connected bulb to battery...light confirms all is good. Splice in fuse to that circuit, no light!!! Problem solved.

I think my next career could be appliance repair. It's amazing how easy these stupid things are to work on.

Dude, all you had to do was run a few loads over the bridge here. The dryer here will about set your clothes on fire.

Glad to hear you got it figured out. Appliances are always a bitch to work with.
I'm going to check that site out to see if there's a fix for my *$#%&) $1500 Bosch dishwasher that feels drying isn't important.

I've ordered, AND returned many parts from them. Good stuff for sure. The site even has a shit load of videos to show you how to replace the part. Youtube of appliance repair for sure.

I wish someone would come up with a dishwasher that had an air blade that would pass front to back or side to side.

They are located less than 15 minutes from my house, open 7-7 7 days a week, with local pick up option. I shop there all the time, nothing like like needing a furnace blower on a 20F Sunday morning!

When my dryer broke recently (bad solder joint on the main power relay) the thermal fuse was something that could also cause a similar fault, and was next on my list if the solder joint was OK. Yes, the online info for appliance repair is actually great if you search for it correctly.

Well, so much for being a good redneck. I always thought the first response to a busted appliance was to chuck it off the deck and shoot it.

That would be cool except you'd have to incorporate a little compressor somewhere.
Would be really nice to have high pressure air make a few passes while the dishes are still hotter than Hades. Would really expedite drying I'd think.

It's an elevated front loaded machine. It's very tall, hence portrait mode.

I have a 2 year old Samsung dryer that started getting the dreaded squeal. It really pissed me off that after paying 800 bucks for it, it squeals after 2 years. I had to pretty much disassemble the entire thing to get to the idler pulley and rollers. Lubed those up and no more squeal.

I have a washer with a bad lid switch that I've been putting off fixing. I only need to do laundry about 2x a month so I'm procrastinating lol
