Absolutely...my parents let my childhood dog hang on far too long. She hurt so badly you couldn't pet her without her getting hurt...

I swore I wouldn't let a pet deteriorate to that level again.

I'm really OK with it. It's part of the responsibility of owning them.

I'll miss him but he could no longer be a German Shepherd. If they can't do their job, they are miserable. I can only wish there was someone out there to extend me the same courtesy when my time comes.
