Default Spring detailing

In the spring I normally take the wheels off and hose out the areas that I can reach. However I have developed a slight rattle in the rear end, and in an effort to diagnose the cause removed both wheel liners and washed everything that I could reach with a garden hose, Simple Green and scrub brushes.

I soaked the liners in my Super Sink and got about a pound of crud off. Those things just collect it, especially on the top side. Another half-pound of crud from the suspension and underside.

Some pictures for your enjoyment.

I knew a guy who would remove the wheels on his Vette regularly to wash the back and inside of the rim. Freaking fruitcake.

Depends on the wheel. For these on the Porch, the inside of the barrel is very visible, so I clean them with wheel woolies about every other wash. Takes almost as much time as the rest of the car.

I remove and do the backs completely once/ year, when I do my winter to summer wheel change.

Looks like it worked. The "suspension" rattle is gone. Must have been a rock trapped in one of the wheel liners. That messy two-hour job potentially saved me hundreds, if not over a thousand clams.
