Jury duty today

Last time my number came up for jury duty, I got pulled "up stairs" for a guy charged with resisting arrest without violence. The prosecution basically said we all looked good to her, no objections.


The defense lawyer had a smoking hot blonde assistant sitting in on the case. While the lead was questioning other folks in the box, I leaned around the person in front of me and made eye contact with her. She smiled back and I thought, that's it...I'm in.


I figured screw it, I'm already there and there's no way this is going all afternoon. When asked if I had any knowledge of the charge against his client I replied, "Resisting w/o violence is a tack on charge they throw in for good measure." Blondie smiled again. Yeah, I'm in.


After they selected me and five of my new friends, the state starts to panic. The arresting officer was late. Before they could swear us in the state called for a continuance and we all went home. Oh well.

The last time I got chosen for a panel, the case was something about terroristic threat. The prosecutor gave general examples of what a terroristic threat is, then asked if anyone had any opinions about that.

I told him, if the guy threatened a plane load of people (one of the examples given), I would definitely find the defendant guilty, if it was proven. However, if the guy threatened someone who deserved to be threatened and had it coming, then I'd be upset they wasted my time and would find the guy innocent.

I didn't get picked.

Case was about some father-raper and litter-bug from the "Group W Bench" gang. We had to hang 'em.


Actually nothing happened. All 120 of us sat crammed in the Jury Pool room for 9 hours. And you would think that with a name like "Jury Pool room", that there'd be a couple of pool tables and at least a beer bar. But nooooooooooo. And you'd think they'd have at least some free coffee. Nope.

And Lord have mercy, that room was hot. Everyone in there was dozing off. And that wasn't easy in those crappy chairs they parked us in.

Actually I played this one kind of smart. The clerk mentioned that there was only one trial still scheduled. A few minutes later she asked if some of the folks would like to sit in the courtroom. So about a third left to go sit in the courtroom. F'ck that! When they start picking jurors, those poor bastards are the first they are going to question. I figure with only one trial for the day and the size of the pool, my chances are already down to 1 in 10. I'm not about to sit in the courtroom and increase the odds! And that's pretty much what happened. They got their jurors picked by the end of the day and those guys are going back tomorrow. I'm sleeping in.

I've been excused for medical reasons. In 1997, I had a blood clot in my leg. When I was following up with the doc after been released from the hospital, I was going through my mail and noticed a jury summons. As I was opening the letter, the doc walks in at the same time I said shit. Doc says what is that? I said a jury summons. He grabbed it from my hands, read it, and said, no worries. You will never go to jury duty again. Wrote me a medical excuse.

With my Brother in Law almost being killed ( strangled ) by a gang member while on duty, I haven't been picked since.

I was one two juries on the county level. Both "took a deal" after I was picked.

I was on one federal jury and we found the defendant not guilty. After the trail, the judge had all of the jury members in his chamber and thanked us for out service. He also mentioned that he agreed with our verdict.

Never called. The closest I've gotten is watching the convicted doing the penguin walk on/off Fed planes. Con-Air does exist.

I’ve been selected 3 times over the years. All 3 times I got bounced when they asked what I did for a living. I told them I ran a large security company that helps banks put criminals behind bars.

Didn’t seem like that big a deal to me, but every time I get bounced during voir dire. I actually wanted to serve, at least for the last one which took place after I retired.

If I had nothing else on my plate, I'd love it. Maybe after I retire, I'll volunteer for the hell of it, LOL.

A few years ago, on the way to or from the NCM, I drove past an airport. Con-Air was dropping off and/or picking up.

So, you vote in PA and IL OR of all the states you can vote in, the only 2 have been PA and IL?
