Correction, Hoosier slicks have the DOT stamp. They are technically street legal.

Known as Buds Creek back in the day. Damn you were in my neck of the woods. I used to race down there. John (Ranger) set his record in his red Z06 there with drag radials fun times back in those days. Wonder what he is up to these days.?

Not sure what he's doing lately. I haven't been there since probably '09.

First time I met John he had just run 10s with a bone stock Z06 (C6) and drag radials. Guy had the launch down to a science.

He'd come out of the hole at ~2700 so as not to glaze those early Z clutches which were a nightmare to launch on.

I miss the early mornings of loading up the trailer with the generator, drag wheels and lunch goodies.
RobZ, my early mentor used to rent out Atco Raceway in NJ. Only place I could go before I got the cage put in.

I remember when Rob went high 9s at 138 with an NA heads/cam LS6 motor and M12.
Everybody called BS even after watching the vids.

Then GM High Perf mag came out to verify the engine after he knocked off a couple high 9s.
Tommy from Anger Mgmt Racing (guy that built my 416) tore it down in front of the mag staff and verified all measurements as a 346 cid motor.

Most folks didn't realize he had an insane top end that could support revs in the 8k range.

That boy could launch with the best. I think his 60' record was in the 1.38 range with slicks IIRC.
Scott

A bad day at the track is still a great day out

I think my state specifically requires tread on tires.

Not sure what the laws are here in TN but one of the guys I used to run with would always switch out to race slicks when we would go to the Dragon. It was always a good time until his dumb behind would start hitting the nitrous on the back roads or heading up the Cherohala

good times but we are damn lucky we kept the shiny side up on some of those runs

I got caught in a hail storm with slicks on the back of my car one time. Good thing it was in the middle of the night with no traffic. I used all three lanes of the freeway slowly bringing the car to a stop. It was like driving on marbles.
