Default Hose Reels

Who has a great reel/cart for their garden hose?

I have been looking at the Liberty 880-2 but hate to drop that much for a garden hose reel, although, I know it would likely be the last one I ever have to buy.

I had one similar, but bought through Northern or Harbor Freight. Was great while it lasted; about 3-4 years.

Now, I use a bluetooth unit.

I bought a cheaper version of that reel from Lowe’s, within a year it’s got flat tires and is rusting. It also doesn’t protect the hose from the sun so the first few feet of the hose is getting stiff.

Check out the Eley reels. They cost a little more, but quality is outstanding. I have 3, the oldest is close to 20 years old and still rock solid.

Our spigot is in the garage, found an old14x8 Cragar SS/T that I had.Hung it up and spent all the money on the nice black Craftsman hoses to cover the whole yard.

I have 4 of these, all are about 5 or 6 y/o.
Thick plastic and sposed to look like a basket of some sort.
Looks and works great...but is an excellent condo for creatures = ants, wasps, lizards, snakes, spiders, etc...

I have had those and you are right on with the wasp condo statement. Also, the UV rays wear those things out after a while and they start to look ratty, but they do hide a hose well.

I'm waiting for the plastic to turn brittle and break off in chunks...it just hasn't happened yet, havent even started fading.

come spring, when it is no longer freezing, i'll lay out hoses from the shop up to the house. normally four 100 foot sections. so i can use the rainwater/snowmelt i've captured over the last few months to water the gardens as needed and to use in the house so i don't have to haul water with my truck.

MY spigot is on the end of my hose......

but as to garden hose, I use one of the expandable types,....super light weight, plenty of flow, and carry in one hand.....it shrinks up small enough to bury between the plants on the front deck, out of sunlight....

Had this for about 10 years, stowed away for winter now. Got it from Griots Garage, a little pricey, but it has been the best hose reel I've ever owned.

I had one that I bought from a tractor supply place, it lasted about 10 years before it needed to be replaced. All steel and brass with decent tires. It would have lasted longer if I had fixed a few rust issues and re-painted it at about the 8-year mark. Paid less than $50 for it too. It did always have an annoying leak where the reel allowed the plumbing to spin, probably could have fixed it easily if I had cared enough to. Now we just have "nests" which are like metal buckets that you just coil the hose up when done with it.

If you get one from a big hardware store, put green slime in the tire.

I've bought several of those. They work great, but within a few months they burst or blew the metal coupling off the end.

I agree. Plus I have the garden tractor sprinklers and those expandable ones will not work since they are too small.
