Just to clarify, you want the government to regulate the method by which retailers advertise their products on private domains.

You want the government to regulate the content of a privately owned website (such as Autotrader).

You want the government to regulate the price of consumer goods and limit profit.

Ummmm... no.

Yes and he wants legislation to protect the stupid. You can’t fix stupid no matter how hard the socialists try. I’m surprised that any conservative would support this, maybe I misread his political views.

Neither did any of the dealers that you linked. Your idiotic argument is exactly the equivalent of someone walking up to Burger King and ordering without looking at the menu... and then claiming that Burger King lied.

Burger King puts out ads all the time that don't apply at certain times. Coupons that in the fine print say things like "eat in only" or "1 coupon per customer".

This is misleading to anybody who doesn't read the fine print, unethical, and should be regulated by the government.

That is really what you are arguing.

It's not even protecting the stupid. It's protecting people too lazy to even open the ad and read it. Even stupid people can figure out how much a car costs based on those ads. His asinine argument is that they are too lazy to actually even read it to get the information! Somehow having all of the information clearly posted and explained in the ad... is misleading and unethical.

The political views are very clear at this point.

I'm starting to connect the dots. I don't think that phone call story happened. I'd say what is much more likely is that this trip to find the "marked up" car really happened when he misread an ad... because he was fk-n lazy and didn't see what it actually said... and rather than accept his mistake, he thinks that it's everyone's fault but his, the dealership lied and was unethical, and the government needs to be responsible for regulating it.

yes, I want honesty in advertised prices. It is 100% clear that dealers are trying to mislead. Taking advantage of people because they don't read the fine print is not ok to me.

So, you think that it's perfectly fine to mislead ignorant people to make a buck?

As long as the price on the menu is the price you pay, there is no problem. If the price of a big mac shows at 99 cent and on the bottom of the screen it says in small print "discounted price for first responders only, regular pricei s $3", that would not be ok.

And you want the government to step in and make sure that doesn’t happen.

There really is no such thing as gouging. There are services available at a variety of prices. You are free to use them or not.

Then you have no solution. Either its legal to ask any price you choose for your services, or the government must create law and police it to prevent, "gouging." Its either legal or illegal. Those are the only options. Pick one.

Sorry, you do not support free markets nor understand them. Prices are simply a signal - information - about the relative scarcity of a good. That is how producers know what to produce and in what quantity.

You think you know which price or profit margin is too high or excessive is too much, but that is not a the same number for everyone. Price is relative to supply and demand. Low supply/high prices/high demand are three ways of saying the same thing. Distort any one of them and chaos ensues.

And by "fine print" you mean really big at the top of the page.

And by "not ok" you mean that you want government to regulate private businesses and control all content on websites.

Admit it, the price for your "marked up" car was on the website... and you didn't take the time to look before you drove your 80 miles.

In this case, "Free" = 100% controlled by the government.

How will the first responder know he can get a burger for 99 cents? "Fine" print?

Does the fact that a certain class of person pays 67% less than you do offend your sense of fair play?

It's more like...

Not so hungry? Have our super deluxe giant burger for 99 cents each.

Very hungry? Have our super deluxe giant burger for $15.99 each.

I'm not asking anyone to agree, but the above is complete and utter bullshit. The market value of the burger is x. X is a reasonable price that compares to similar items available.

As for the TP during covid., I have to laugh at some of you defending what happened. How can you POSSIBLY not see that it is the exact same thing our government does. CREATE a problem, then offer a solution to their manufactured problem.

Buy up the supply of toilet paper (create a problem) then open their trunk on the side of the road and sell it for $30 a roll.

I would wish and hope some hood-rat would club them on the head and steal all of it and the cash, and their car.

I'm sure I could probably piece it together with a scan through the last 2 pages, but what is your proposed solution for the "TP" issue?

Certainly you pro-gouging people must be really disappointed that Martin Shkreli got spanked. I mean why not make a $13.50 medication rocket to $750.00. People can choose to die instead of paying those crazy prices, right? Options !
