Defending yourself or your property in Canada will likely get YOU arrested and jailed. Last year a car was stolen every 40 minutes on average in Toronto, and as Flex said the police will take a report over the phone and not even investigate. If thieves are caught they're back on the street in no time.

Sorry to hear that man.

Hopefully it will cheer you up a bit to realize that you now have the opportunity to improve your taillights.

Sorry to hear that. Really sucks.

Solution is simple: carjack or steal a car, its now time for the firing squad. Cheap and efficient. Do this several times, and I guarantee that it will drop to a trickle.

If they were somehow able to access the car's CAN bus without triggering the alarm, they could possibly have programmed a new key fob and paired it with the car. The smashed window glass might indicate how they gained access to the interior.

Fixt for accuracy.

Only instance I’m aware of was walking up to my car in my 20’s and seeing legs ticking out the driver side door. Asshole was under my dash stealing my Alpine deck. The door being slammed several times on his legs and or the eventual bat I used gave him two broken legs. Ambulance called blah blah, brought in for questioning, released 2 1/2 hours later….no arrest…..no charges.

Reasonable force is legal…like most places.

Can I shoot someone dead for stealing my grandsons bike… probably not….thankfully

OK, but how long ago WAS that? Canada, like the US, has taken a big turn away from common sense and fair play. I'm sure 30 or 40 years ago, a rancher shooting an illegal who was menacing his family wouldn't even have gone in front of a grand jury, much less have the case true billed, or have one juror even want to find the rancher guilty.

I assume that you have garage door openers and buttons on the vette to open them- reprogram them now.

Just one of many examples that pop up in a search about use of deadly force in Canada, all of which agree you can’t use it to defend your property.

Quote:
It was just after 5 a.m. ET on Sunday when a group of men allegedly broke into the house where Ali Mian, a 22-year-old resident of Milton, Ont., lives, according to police.

Mian, through his lawyer, alleges the men who broke in — one of whom has since been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm — attacked his mother. It was then that Mian allegedly shot one of them.

Police say there were multiple gunshots fired within the home, and one of the men who entered the home died.

Mian was charged with second-degree murder and is now awaiting trial.

First thing that popped on the google machine. Dated Feb 2023

Canadians have a right to defend their property or themselves as long as their defensive actions are reasonable under the circumstances. This means that if you injure an intruder entering your home or property, you would need to show that the circumstances gave you no other reasonable choice.

Lol…. First time you used “deadly force”

The quote I fixed started with you saying “defending yourself…….. no mention of deadly force….until now

So, what kind of force can you use to protect your property? Make a citizen’s arrest? Slap them? Call them names so they’re insulted and leave?

Looks like a case by case basis. Dated Oct 2023 No idea what the facts are on the case you copied

However, it is crucial to note that injuring an intruder or using lethal force is only justified when it is the only available option for self-defence against a perceived threat of severe bodily harm or loss of life. Any actions taken beyond what is deemed reasonable and necessary will not be condoned by the law

Are you asking what you can do other than shooting someone dead to stop them from stealing something ?

You’re smarter than that. If I shot the stereo stealer I might not be hear to read your asinine question.
