But I know what you mean. I spent months gathering information relating to my permit prior to a 26 state ride on the bike to be sure I didn't get myself arrested along the way. I'd say about 1 in 5 states caused me to unload the gun and store it out of reach. Touchy business, some borders aren't marked (I prefer riding backroads), only know you crossed one because the license plates change color.
