Default Two dollars and 50 cents for an egg roll - WTF?

I bought some Chinese food the other day and they wanted $2.50 per egg roll. Jeebus Cry WTF is going on? They were like 3 for a buck just a few years ago.

I make my own. Last time I ordered a spring roll from a Chinese takeout, it was all dough and almost no filling.

I have a friend who inspects restaurant kitchens for a living. He tells me where in town is okay to eat and where is not. Mention a Chinese restaurant to him and he just shudders.

I get a package of spring roll wrappers, some ground pork, and a bag of cole slaw blend from the veggie section. Brown and drain about half a pound of the pork and add the coleslaw blend to the wok. Do not overcook the coleslaw. Spice it up with some Siracha and some hoisin sauce. Lay a spring roll wrapper on a piece of foil and wet the edges all around with some water. Dump a couple heaping tablespoons of filling in the center and wrap that rascal like a burrito. Make sure the edges are sealed. Deep fry for about three or four minutes.

That's how I do it anyway.

Dude, sounds good but I’m a good decade or more from putting that kind of effort into cooking, health issues unfortunately.

Just buy them in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Something like $7 for a package of 8.

Let's think back. There must be a reason. Hmmmm. There must be some event that took place maybe around 2020 that changed things. If I had to guess, it would have something to do with diapers, wandering, slurring, and cognitive disability, but I can't put my finger on it.

I love PF Chang's, but all we have locally is China Panda, and a couple of bad family owned places (tasteless, drenched in thick syrup sauce).

The thing that surprised me is a large glass of sweet tea was nearly $4.00 at CP the other day.I can get an entire gallon at CFA for not much more.

tuan pham made the best egg rolls, vietnamese style, they taught the chinese, tuan never charged unless you forgot to pick up beer on the way to his house.

An aside, local taco joint, one store, 3 steak tacos with drink and tax = $20.
You may get 6 ozs of very average steak on your tacos, but no more, probably less.

Eating out costs much more than 18 months ago, I no longer eat out, unless I am at home.

Yea they're semi-palatable but fresh made egg rolls are usually pretty tasty with some hot Chinese yellow mustard on them.
